“The Truth and Nothing But the Truth” is episode four of season four of The 4400.
Diana’s sister, April, is dressed up and sitting in a hotel bar. She looks over at a man who comes and joins her. He introduces himself as Peter. April looks over at a second man briefly. Peter talks about his job at his Fortune 500 company. Then April asks him a series of questions and finds out he’s in town to pay a $300K bribe and his room number. Peter didn’t want to answer any of those questions. He flees. The second man, Colin, joins April and asks what they have. Corporate intrigue. She asks Colin if he loves her. He says he does. But it’s not like he could lie to her anyway.
In the previous episode, “Audrey Parker’s Come and Gone”, Carrie directed Kyle to a location where Isabelle ended up escaping from custody after a crash. Isabelle is now reading the strange book Carrie directed Kyle to in a cabin when he arrives with supplies. Kyle thinks he was sent to find her for a reason, but he doesn’t know what it is. He hopes the answer is in the book. Isabelle asks what believing Jordan Collier is a messiah sent to save the world means for her; her abilities are gone and she can’t tolerate promicin. She hurt Shawn and tried to kill Collier. Kyle points out he did kill Collier. He thinks she can be forgiven and has a role in Collier’s world.
April enters her room and calls out for Colin. Diana is there. April asks her sister what she’s going to do. Diana was worried after hearing April took the shot. And thinks it’s only because of Ben and Diana that she did. April agrees they may be the reason, but it was the gith thing to do. She has money, clothes, a great guy and a great ability. If April asks a question, you have to tell the truth. April tells Diana to go back to Spain with Ben. Enjoy her life as April is going to enjoy her own.
Tom finds Doyle, who asks if he’s seen the final report on Shawn’s recovery. He has. She tells him DC has too. They’re now wondering where the promicin came from. Someone came him a dose and Tom’s sister and son were the only ones there. She doubts Tom’s sister is responsible.
Senator Roland Lenhoff comes to see Shawn. The devil made flesh he calls himself. He doesn’t want to shut Shawn down; he wants Shawn to heal as many people as possible. Surprising, he knows. Lenhoff passed the bill requiring 4400s to register their abilities. Shawn says if it was up to Lenhoff, 4400s would be living behind barbed war. Lenhoff admits he was waging a kind of war. But the committee he chaired is issuing a report showing he’s not winning that war. Promicin is not going away. Lenhoff fought in Vietnam, and was able to go back there with his wife. If he can make peace with Charlie, he can make peace with Shawn. Lenhoff wants Shawn to run for the Seattle city council; there’s a vacant seat. He wants Shawn to be an alternative to Collier and his radicals. To walk the middle path. Lenhoff is sure this will cost him his chance at re-election, but the country, the world, needs it.
Diana tells Ben about April. He says they could move back to Spain now. Diana guesses. Give her a week to sort out work.
April is meeting Colin who is going to get the blackmail money. She didn’t think Diana cared enough about her to come looking for her. Colin arranges to meet later for a cocktail.
Tom arrives home, finding Kyle about to leave. Tom asks Kyle if he gave Shawn promicin. Kyle denies it repeatedly. After Kyle leaves. Tom goes to his room and gets hair from his brush.
April is waiting in the bar for Colin, who’s late. His mobile is going to answerphone. She heads back to their room and finds him there, dead. She heads to find Diana and explains. Diana agrees that Paul is the number one suspect. She checks that the suite is on Colin’s name, which means April has no connection, and takes her to a motel for the meantime.
Whoever Colin and April tried to blackmail is a lot more dangerous than they thought. And they’re going to come after her. Kyle checks with Shawn that he will back him up about the promicin thing. Shawn decides to run, but his middle path doesn’t make everyone happy. Isabelle and Kyle are working on the book. And Tom took Kyle’s hair to check for promicin.
