“What You Take with You” is episode nine of season six of The 100.
In the previous episode, “The Old Man and the Anomaly”, Diyoza had gone into the Anomaly, and Octavia had run in after her. Then, seconds later, run out again healed. Octavia is with Gabriel in the tent; she doesn’t remember what happened inside. Gabriel says she’s the first to return from the Anomaly in 150 years. He has something that could help hr remember. Octavia thinks that perhaps there was nothing to remember; she was only in a few seconds. Gabriel says that it may have been longer. Octavia was healed and her hair was clean and longer, and running towards him, not away, perhaps as if something was chasing her. Until tonight, no-one has returned, and Gabriel wants to know why.
Russell and Gabriel tried this serum before, to see if there was any remnant of former hosts in a body. The learned things about themselves. Gabriel is telling Octavia to follow the signs when she goes under. She turns to ask what signs, but Gabriel has disappeared. There’s a green-lit box and a red-lit one that’s shaking. Octavia choses to open the red box. And ends up in the fighting pits in the bunker. Chained to the floor and remembering all the things she did. She collapses and, when she gets back up, Pike, who she killed in “Perverse Instantiation: Part 2”, is there. He asks Octavia what she wants. What she really wants.
Kane is in his new body on Eligius III. Abby is trying to convince him that this is a gift, and that he’s still inside. The next morning, Abby goes looking for Kane. She tells Raven she did the right thing. Raven suggests they ask Kane what he thinks, when Simone arrives. One of her guards was married to Kane’s host and tells Kane that Gavin was overjoyed he could help Kane and become one with the Primes. Kane isn’t buying what the Primes sell their followers. Simone tells Abby that there’s always a period of adjustment, especially for the first body. Abby is sure she’s right; there’s nothing to worry about. Abby doesn’t look like she’s convincing herself. Especially as Raven and Kane go to wake Indra.
The plan to rescue Clarke didn’t go quite right, but Bellamy still has Clarke’s body, and Josie inside it, and is heading through the woods to find Gabriel to remove the mind drive. Josephine is trying to talk him out of it; all three of them will die. Then she collapses with a spasm and bleeds from her nose. Josie tells Bellamy that, when the Children of Gabriel find out who she is, they’ll destroy her mind drive and cut off Clarke’s head. They are then promptly found by the Children.
Bellamy asks to speak to Gabriel as they are led into some caves and Josie is trying to provoke them, for some unknown reason. When Bellamy says the Primes can create as many hosts as they want, the Children listen. The leader tells Bellamy to explain, or his rude friend dies. Bellamy will only tell Gabriel. Yes, they could likely make him talk, but by the time that happens, the 12 Primes may be back. The leader states there were 13. Both are chained up and the leader uses the radio to try and contact Gabriel as the Children leave.
Bellamy says that radios don’t work on the moon. Josie says they do, in one place. And calling Gabriel means he’s alive. Bellamy asks what the deal is between the two of them. Josie has been in love with Gabriel for 236 years. The past 70 of which he’s been trying to kill her. Josie’s finger starts tapping out Morse code. Josie notices this time; it’s a message for her anyway. ‘Boohoo.’ Bellamy asks if that means Clarke can hear. Yes; the walls between their minds are breaking down. Clarke will stroke out and Josie will download. Bellamy tells Clarke he won’t let her die.
Josie is still trying to convince Bellamy that her way is best. Which would mean Clarke died. She also recaps Bellamy and Clarke’s, admittedly rather strange, relationship over the years. Kane is definitely struggling with the idea of someone dying to give him a new body. And Octavia ends up fighting one of the few people as dangerous as her – herself.
