“The Warriors Will” is episode ten of season five of The 100.
In the previous episode, “Sic Semper Tyrannis”, Murphy had stirred up trouble between Diyoza and McCreary – Diyoza also revealed to McCreary that her baby was his; not a huge surprise – splitting the prisoners. In the bunker Gaia, with Madi’s agreement, as well as cooperation from Bellamy and Indra, had put the Flame into Madi.
At the end of “How We Get to Peace” Bellamy had poisoned Octavia to get her out of action; Octavia was recovering, though, and with Clarke’s help – Clarke really didn’t want Madi to take the Flame – had managed to stop a coup. So Bellamy, Indra and Gaia are under arrest as traitors (which has upset Octavia) and Clarke took the rover and left with Madi, after she was implanted with the Flame.
The episode opens at night with Madi asleep in the rover with Clarke. When Clarke stops and wakes Madi, the latter wants to go back to Polis – which is 50 miles away. Madi says that Octavia will get the war she wants. Clarke says maybe not; she will tell Diyoza her eye in the sky is down, and then tell Octavia that Diyoza knows this. Which will solve the problem. In the back of the rover are the worms that Octavia planned to use against Shadow Valley. So Octavia throws them out, breaking their containers, and that is another problem solved. The worms don’t look exactly dead, so is this a mistake?
McCreary is having his people search for Abby’s drugs. Abby is entering withdrawal and McCreary himself hardly looks well. Abby won’t treat him though, but he won’t give her the drugs back until she does.
In the bunker, half of Wonkru do not want to march on Shadow Valley. There are a whole bunch of reasons, but the truth is that there is a new Commander, and they want to follow Madi. Cooper’s replacement says that Octavia can either bend her knee to Madi – which she admits she would prefer Octavia did – or kill half her people. Or, more specifically, put Indra, Gaia and Bellamy into the fighting pit.
Octavia goes to see Indra, wanting another option. Indra says that there isn’t one, but that she won’t kill Gaia. Instead, after killing Bellamy, Indra will let her daughter kill her. Indra says that Octavia is no longer thinking of her people, she is only thinking of herself. Sadly, later events look like this is true.
Abby has an ally in McCreary’s camp; the charming serial killer Vinson. A man so dangerous that the other prisoners keep a shock collar on him at all times; something Vinson himself says is a good idea. Perhaps not the most ideal of allies.
Octavia is still wanting to stop Bellamy’s death. She wants Monty to help, but he refuses. He won’t be responsible for more killing. Instead, he shows that his algae has brought the hydrofarm back to life and, given time, it could do the same with the wasteland. Octavia says that farmers won’t save them; warriors will. For farmers didn’t help when the farm failed. It’s looking increasingly likely that those in the bunker had to turn to cannibalism during the Dark Year.
Madi is remembering what happened to other Commanders. Including how Becca, the first Commander, died. She tells Clarke that if the Flame is removed now, it will be destroyed, because Madi has only just had it.
Octavia is not looking to be a terribly good leader any longer. It looks as if she will do anything to get her way, even if it goes against the best interests of those she is supposed to be leading. Yet Octavia hates it when Monty calls her a dictator. Wonkru is splitting, and events look to be on the edge of extreme violence.
