“The Last War” is episode sixteen of season seven of The 100, the season and series finale and, not coincidentally, the 100th episode of the show.
There is no pre-credits teaser for the final episode. Raven, Jackson, Murphy are taking Emori, who was seriously injured in the previous episode, “The Dying of the Light”, to the surgery in Sanctum. The defibrillator gets Emori breathing again, but she needs blood. Raven isn’t a Nightblood, so she can’t give blood. Jackson tells her there’s nothing more she can do; she needs to go after their friends. Murphy tells Raven that, once the others are safe, she needs to go after Madi and stop Cadogan.
Bill is entering the stone room, and Clarke, Octavia and Levitt are close behind. Levitt warns them that the Shepherd’s team will be guarding the door. Too bad for them; Clarke plans to blow them up for what was done to Madi. Levitt thinks they might not deserve to transcend. The Disciples are all killed by Clarke, but Bill has already gone.
Bill is on a pier from his memories in the stars and Callie asks him what took him so long. Bill talks to her, and realises she isn’t his daughter. No; this is who he chose. They most often take the form of the subjects’ greatest teacher, greatest failure or, for emotion-driven species, their greatest love. Or all of the above, Callie suggests for Bill. Her words on her being the judge cause Bill to realise this is a test, as was said. Callie will ask questions and she will know if Bill is lying. If he succeeds, the consciousness of their entire species will transcend and become one with them. Fail, and they will be eliminated. She starts with the first question. And Clarke shoots Bill from behind.
In the fighting pits of the bunker, Jordan has found Hope on the throne, trying it out. Then the portal opens and the criminals come through with digging equipment. And Raven. Indra fills Raven in on where everyone else is. They are planning to launch an attack on Bardo; Hope suggests leading a small team past the army to kill Cadogan, but they need a decoy. Jordan has an idea.
Jordan goes through the portal and arrives on Bardo. He then activates a device, and the Disciples lose their invisibility and their weapons. The others come in; Raven and Echo are sneaking past io9nvisibily whilst everyone else takes up defensive positions.
Miller finds Jackson and Murphy. They attempt to remove the rebar from Emori. It kills her. Murphy wants her mind drive putting inside his head.
Levitt and Octavia are talking; Levitt is concerned that they might just be buying time for Wanheda to take the test. Raven and Echo arrive at this point. The condition of Madi and Wonkru are explained. Levitt is still concerned; Clarke may be taking a test to determine whether the human race should transcend whilst the last of the human race are trying to kill each other. Octavia and Echo will try to stop this; Raven is going to enter the stone room.
Clarke is wondering why she’s still there. She’s told she knows why, and Lexa appears. Clarke runs to hug her. Lexa says she isn’t Lexa. Clarke knows. She doesn’t stop. The test can’t be stopped either. Humanity will be judged through Clarke, who shot an unarmed man who was no threat to her. Because of what he did to Madi. Clarke thinks it’s justice; the other thinks it’s revenge. Clarke admits she’s killed, committed genocide, for love. What’s their excuse? Lexa tells her humanity is not worthy of taking the next step.
That’s not good. It was a test, and Clarke has failed it. Humanity is going to go extinct as a result. Unless the series is going to have a truly depressing ending – and only four characters from the very first episode have made it this far – something is going to change.
