“The Dying of the Light” is episode fifteen of season seven of The 100.
In the previous episode, “A Sort of Homecoming”, Madi decided to go to Bardo to stop anyone else from being hurt. Which didn’t exactly work, as a bomb was sent back. Miller got it out of the fighting pit before it exploded, but it caused a lot of damage. Murphy comes around in rubble, calling for Emori. Jackson and Raven find him – they haven’t found anyone else – and they find Emori buried, with a rebar through her side.
Miller pries off the door in the pit but the corridor behind has collapsed. Clarke says they can still get to Madi, with the pills Sheidheda brought. Gaia stops Clarke from taking one, saying they have to think it through. Octavia is going to go with. But nothing happens when they take them. Hope says that maybe someone is needed to pull them through.
Bill arrives at the memory probing chamber, where Levitt is waiting. Levitt reassures Madi that it won’t hurt. Bill says if Madi’s mind contains the final code, it will all be worth it. Madi disagrees; she tells him Jordan studied the texts. Bill thinks it’s a war because he wants a war. It’s actually a test someone has to take. Bill doesn’t believe this but if it is a test, that’s a good thing. A conductor enters; there’s been a signal from Earth. Two nanotech have been activated. Bill says to leave them there.
Levitt asks about Bill’s daughter in Madi’s sketchbook. She doesn’t know any more about her. Levitt tells Bill that the memory isn’t registering in any of the normal areas. He will have to search deeper. It’s extremely dangerous and he’s never done it before. Bill trusts him
Indra wants to discuss their plan. Get Madi, kill bill. Gaia says it’s not that easy; another will take Bill’s place. Faith doesn’t die. Miller asks how it ends and Octavia says transcending after the last war. Jordan states that war is a failure of everything. That’s why it’s a test. The red sun toxin showed Jordan something, and when he read the Bardo texts, he knew what it was. The next stage in human evolution. A purpose to everything. And they don’t find it killing each other in a war.
Clarke is upset and heads up. Gaia follows. Clarke wonders what Madi is doing. Gaia points out she’s doing exactly what Clarke would do, has done, trying to fix everything on her own. Clarke then wonders if her mother felt the same way about Clarke. She killed Bellamy to protect Madi. Everyone she loves dies, and she can’t keep doing this.
Emori is got out of the rubble. Her leg is injured too, and Jackson needs to cauterise the wound. Raven arrives with some medical equipment as they do; she didn’t find the others as the hallway has collapsed. Jackson needs a proper surgery to help Emori; he needs to get to Sanctum. Raven fixed the helmet and it’s in the rec room. They’ll worry about Madi and the rest later.
They didn’t find the stone last time, so they rip the place apart. Under the piano is an Azgeda symbol on the concrete. The stone is buried underneath. Raven and Murphy start to smash the floor; Emori is bleeding.
Emori is dying and the stone is buried. Clarke is going out of her mind with worry about Madi. Bill is so desperate to get what he needs from Madi that he’s perfectly willing to risk her life looking for it. The story continues in the series finale, “The Last War”.
