“Through the Valley of Death” is episode twelve of season one of Superman and Lois.
John Irons is at the Metropolis Institute of Technology. He checks his watch and heads back to his RV. The AI asks if he could find her. John thinks she must be home. They head there and the AI says she’s in a taxi approaching. They could easily catch her, if John wants to connect to this world’s version of his younger sister. The Lois calls; in the previous episode, “A Brief Reminiscence In-Between Cataclysmic Events”, Superman went away with Morgan Edge, and she tells John she thinks Superman has been turned.
Clark is trying to resist the pain and Edge is talking about how pain is a weakness his father removed from him. Fight as long as he can. Eventually, he will fail in this as this mind comes to life. Not even Superman is strong enough to resist the will of Zod.
Lois reassures the boys that this will be okay. Clark has been in worst spots and always gets through. She’s being doing this for 20 years; trust her. After they’ve gone to bed, Sam arrives. They can’t find Clark and Edge. Sam suggests starting at the Fortress. Lois says he isn’t there, but Edge mentioned having one too, in the desert.
Kyle is going to head out to work, and to get checked up by the military, when the doorbell goes. It’s one of the other firefighters. She heard some of the guys talking. They have concerns about Kyle. He vouched for Morgan Edge and after what happened, people are angry. It might be wise to take some days to cool off.
Jonathan finds Jordan. Jordan says the soldiers can’t do anything. Jonathan thinks they can. When their father was attacked by John Irons, Jordan found him. Jordan says that was only a couple of miles away; their dad could be anywhere in the world. Jonathan has more confidence than Jordan does. He says Jordan can do it; he just needs to believe he can. They head to find a quiet spot as John Irons arrives.
Sam and Lois fill John in; given that he doesn’t know who Superman really is, some of what they’re telling him probably makes no sense. Lois wants to come up with a rescue plan, but John says that if Superman signalled her to call him, it was to put Superman down by any means necessary. It took his world’s Superman 7 minutes to destroy Metropolis. He will be turned. Lois says he won’t and she can prove it. After Lois leaves, Sam tells John he’s rounded up every weapon from Project 7734. John says he has a more effective means than Kryptonite.
Jonathan and Jordan are talking. Jordon doesn’t think he can do this. Jonathan tells him he can.
Sam and John are in John’s RV. He explains that they have a missile made using red solar tech. Developed with Lex Luthor. It depletes a Kryptonian of power long enough to kill them. John used it in his fight with Kal-El, drawing him into deep space, but before he could see if it worked, he ended up on this Earth.
Kyle, Lana and Sarah head into town and greet Emily. Neither she nor her husband are happy with Kyle and Lana, blaming them for what happened. After they leave, Lois approaches and tells them they aren’t to blame. Edge is. The others will see that eventually. Lois will make sure of that. She’d like to talk to them both in private before the test, though. Lois wants to know what it was like when they were taken over. Lana has no memories – probably because she did it willingly – but Kyle remembers fragments. Including fighting back. That’s what Lois wanted to know. That fighting back is possible.
Superman is still fighting against Zod and leaves Edge’s fortress for a bit. He shouts for Jordan who hears him, then Edge arrives and tells Jordan that if they send anyone for his father, that won’t be the man they find.
Lois bumps into John Diggle; it seems Sam asked Lyla for some tech. Neither Lois nor Digg are happy when they discover that Sam lied to get the tech. John is introduced and they are talking when Jonathan and Jordan rush in to say they’ve found Superman.
Kyle and his family are getting hassle because he vouched for Edge and Lana got many people turned into Kryptonian meat puppets. Neither of which were their fault. Lois is still convinced Superman can be saved; John is still convinced he can’t.
