“Lies That Bind” is episode twelve of season two of Superman and Lois.
At the end of the previous episode, “Truth and Consequences”, Clark revealed to Lana that he was Superman. She’s now questioning how long he had powers and that he’s the reason all the strange stuff happened in Smallville when they were children, even the accident they had. After which Clark vanished. Clark tells Lana he had to figure out who he was, but saving her and Pete meant he finally understood what he was meant to do and couldn’t stay in Smallville any longer. Lana asks why he didn’t come back for her. Clark tells her he did, but she was with Kyle, and of course he loved her. Lana says just not enough and leaves.
Jordan and Jonathan are having difficulty believing that Lana just drove away. They also don’t want to go to school. Jonathan is told that with the Bizarro version of him locked up, he’s technically safer than everyone else. And, if they need the boys’ help, they’ll know exactly where they are. Lois is going to speak to Lana and Clark will see John Henry and Sam about the pendant.
At school, Natalie attempts to get Sarah to stop near all three of them. But, as Nat expected, she passes by. Three others of the team start having a go at Jonathan and he starts ranting about how sports is meaningless and it’s the end of the world as they know it. Jordan says Jonathan is talking about climate change. Afterwards, Natalie says Jonathan isn’t fine, and after what he’s been through, that’s cool, but maybe they shouldn’t be there. Follow her.
Lana is remembering her childhood with Clark when Kyle joins her. She’s not really paying attention, and ends up getting a message from Lois.
Superman goes to see Bizarro Jonathan and says he deserved better. He’s a good kid on the wrong path and he’s got a chance to help save the worlds and stop Ally. Bizarro Jonathan says that maybe if his own father had talked to him that way, he might be on Superman’s side. But he didn’t. When Ally realises he’s not coming back, she’ll come herself.
John Henry and Sam says the pendant is nearly impossible to destroy, but it’s not indestructible. It’s too much for Superman on his own and the tech is too dangerous. John Henry has another idea; closing the portal. Superman doesn’t want to abandon the people of the other world to Ally. He points out that the last time they came up with an idea like this, it was to kill him. Say says that in the moment it seemed like their only option. Precisely Superman’s point.
Lana goes to see Lois. She’s not mad at Clark. She was, but she doesn’t blame him for not telling the truth. She’s hurt but not mad. It’s Lois she’s mad at. Their friendship was based on a lie.
What Nat is showing Jonathan and Jordan is the new suit she is working on. It was for her, but she thinks Jonathan needs it more at the moment. It doesn’t work currently, because it needs the key component, a power source, and she needs help digging it out.
Superman goes to see Tal-Rho. He explains that he went to the other side and spent time with the other Tal-Rho. Tal says that in any other world they would be best friends, but in this Clark is unable to trust him. Superman says maybe he could. He needs Tal’s help in destroying the pendant. Tal asks what does he get in return. He’s not going to ask for release. Superman asks Tal what he wants. Tal wants his brother back. Superman says it’s not him Tal has to convince.
Clark is at home looking nervous when Lois returns home, talking about her meeting with Lana. He tells her there’s someone to see her. Tal. Bearing flowers. Tal doesn’t expect her to forgive him. Tal’s father set Tal on a path and Tal thought if he could fulfil his father’s dream, his own, to be reunited with his brother, would come true. Tal saw Lois as an obstacle. He was wrong and he’s sorry. He will never hurt Lois or anyone she loves again. Both Clark and Tal hear Sam and John Henry coming, and neither of those two are that happy.
Tal and Clark together might be able to destroy the pendant. But Ally is far more powerful than either of them, and she’s coming too.
