“Into Oblivion” is episode eight of season two of Superman and Lois.
One year ago, and after John Henry left Natalie in the bunker, an alarm goes off and an AI, Hedy, warns Natalie there’s a temporal anomaly moving through the galaxy and compromising the integrity of the dimension (the result of Crisis on Infinite Earths). Her father has left orbit and the escape pod might not reach him in time. Natalie launches anyway, and sees her father’s ship go through the rift and follows.
In the present and Natalie is with her father at the hospital. Clark and Lois arrive to take them home. John will be glad to be home to spend some time with his two girls. Natalie reminds him that’s not their Lois. She’s still dead. He knows. Afterwards, Natalie speaks to the doctor. She says that recovery takes time after this kind of brain trauma and such moments are normal. Natalie would like another brain scan, just to be safe, and the doctor agrees. Clark says that he’ll be back to take them home. John will be fine. Natalie says he doesn’t know that.
Kyle is picking up his daughters, and he asks Lana how the debate prep is going. Good. Emily is helping. She doesn’t need Kyle’s help.
Back home, and Clark says Natalie is right; John got hurt saving him. Lois says they both need time to heal. And now they need to find out what Jonathan knows about the drugs or he will never get back to school. Both are called down. Other parents don’t want Jonathan near their kids and the American football season has been cancelled; they had to forfeit all their wins. For the first time in Smallville’s history. Jonathan says he still can’t tell them whose drugs they were. They don’t understand. Clark agrees, because Jonathan won’t talk. Then he hears Sam and has to go. Lois says that Jonathan will take classes online.
In the previous episode, “Anti-Hero”, Anderson took the pendant to Ally Allston. Now he’s telling her that he killed Kal-El and has both of the pendants. Ally says they can finally ascend and she has a message for her other self. The world is red-tinged, so it’s no surprise when Anderson comes out of it in the normal world with Ally, who had drugged him. Ally wants to know if her other self gave any instructions. Yes; to come now.
Jonathan is talking to Lois when Chrissy calls. Even after Ally drugged her, Chrissy didn’t let her true feelings be known. Ally has now called her; they’re sending a car. A van pulls up outside the Gazette and Chrissy is told to get in the back. Where there are people in hazmat suits. She’s asked if that’s a problem. No; it seems perfectly normal.
At school, Sarah is talking to Jordan. She wants him to meet Aubrey. He thinks it’s weird. That’s why Sarah wants to meet. Jordan gets distracted, overhearing Candice being hassled by someone wanting money for the inhalers and agrees, then heads over.
Superman is talking to Sam at the DoD. Sam is on temporary duty. He opens the safe in Anderson’s office to give Superman the pendant, only to find it gone. Anderson is at the mines and takes down one of the soldiers as two vans carrying Ally and the others roll up.
At the farm, Sam says that thanks to John Henry they can track the pendant. Clark admits that Anderson knows about Ally. Lois says Chrissy is heading to see Ally now. Something big is happening. Then she and Sam get a message from Lucy that reads like a goodbye. Sam says Lucy is at home. He’s tracking her phone. Lois asks if hers is being tracked too, as Clark heads to check on Lucy. He returns saying she’s not home. Lois wonders if they’re trying to get to the inverse world and Clark says the other him came through the mines.
In the mines, Ally and the others are approaching some kind of portal. They start floating into the air and heading towards it. However, when the first approaches the portal, he screams in pain and looks to be ripped apart. Sam tells Clark the DoD team at the mines isn’t responding.
Those heading to the portal can’t return and look to be dying. Anderson, possibly realising that the only person to get through was Kryptonian, in a protective suit and wearing a pendant, takes a hit of HK, grabs the pendant and heads through the portal. Superman arrives in time to save Chrissy, Ally and one other.
They don’t know if Lucy was one of the party, and if she was, she’s probably dead. Natalie still has definite issues with Clark. Or, more specifically, Superman. Though she knows he’s not the same, he still looks the same. And when she went through the rift, she ended up essentially nowhere.
