“Heritage” is episode two of season one of Superman and Lois.
In the previous episode, “Pilot”, Clark and Lois had decided to move to Smallville. They’ve moved in and Jonathan is saying he hasn’t got the playbook yet. Jordan asks about school; his parents don’t think that’s a good idea yet. Clark says they need to learn about Jordan’s powers; he had an ocular discharge. Jordan says it’s an accident; he doesn’t know how it happened. Which is the whole point; he can’t go to school until he can control his powers. Jordan is unhappy and Jonathan heads after him. Clark and Lois talk about the man in the suit – Captain Luthor, though they don’t know his name yet. Luthor knows a lot about Superman and Clark is concerned he knows about them.
Luthor’s ship lands in Moldova and he attacks what appear to be arms dealers. He’s looking for Kryptonite but they don’t have any. Back on his ship, Luthor is upset. His AI tells him his suit is running low on power and the ship is barely operable. Luthor doesn’t care. He needs to stop Kal-El before he does to this world what he did to Luthor’s.
Jonathan is heading to school with his mother. Jordan asks his father why they need big winter jackets. Are they flying somewhere? Clark tells him they kind of have to. At school, Sarah speaks to Jonathan, then Sean, her boyfriend, does, along with Sean’s friends. It sounds like they’re the reason Jonathan lacks a playbook.
Clark has taken Jordan to the Fortress of Solitude. When Clark’s father died, he had a lot of questions and came here for answers. He has the entire history of Krypton for Jordan to see.
Lois is in a diner working on a piece about Morgan Edge when Lana and Kyle arrive. Lana invites Lois to a barbecue; Kyle is still a fan of Edge as he’s bringing jobs to Smallville. Lana tells Lois there’s a city meeting tonight after the mayor passes and speaks to Kyle.
At the Fortress, Jordan watches the destruction of Krypton. He asks Clark how he knows this. Clark’s father told him. Or, rather, the AI of his Kryptonian father. Clark introduces Jordan to the hologram of Jor-El, the man Jordan is named after. Clark tells Jor-El that Jordan is manifesting abilities.
Jordan is practicing when they return home. Clark tells Lois they will return tomorrow for tests. She tells him that Lana invited them for dinner and she’s going to go to the city meeting. Just to listen. Clark hears something; General Lane is approaching with his work face on. Lois will take the boys. Sam tells Clark about the Moldova attack and they will be able to track Luthor’s ship when it goes airborne again.
Lois tells the boys not to make a scene; they see Sarah and head over to her. Lois speaks to a woman who was watching her in the diner; her name is Chrissy Beppo and she works for the Smallville Gazette. Then Morgan Edge is introduced.
San tells Clark if he’s looking for a simple life those days are long gone. Why did he bring his family here? Clark took Lois from where she needs to be, hurt Jonathan’s chances at American football and Jordan has no chance of fitting in. He must have had a heck of a reason. Sam realises Clark told the boys who he is. He thinks he ruined their childhood. Sam has seen the toll it’s taken on Lois and it will put the boys through the same hell. It will tear Clark’s family apart. Sam gets a call; Luthor’s ship has been detected in Mongolia.
Edge is talking about how many jobs he will create. Lois has a question as the 600 jobs is an estimate. She’d hate to see what happened in New Carthage happen here. Missing job estimates by 50% and paying well below a living wage. Edge says he’s taking a chance, offering everyone a chance to save their town and improve the residents’ lives. It sounds like he’s suggesting he might back out, which won’t go down well currently and makes Lois look bad.
In Mongolia, Luthor can’t detect any Kryptonite. Superman appears and asks Luthor what he wants. Superman gone. He destroyed Luthor’s home planet. They are fighting and Luthor says he knows Superman can hear the bomb on Luthor’s ship. Superman has to head after the ship and gets it out of the atmosphere before it explodes.
It seems that Luthor’s Superman is one of those who went to the dark side, and he’s convinced that this will happen on this world as well. It also seems he’s not willing to consider that Superman might not be evil.
