“Schott Through the Heart” is episode fourteen of season three of Supergirl.
Kara is psyching everyone up. For karaoke. Some of them are really bad. James talks to Mon-El about Imra’s powers and Mon-El asks if James is seeing anyone. Maybe; they haven’t figured out what they’re doing yet. M’yrnn likes karaoke and Alex mentions how they haven’t been invited to the apartment yet. James leaves a message for Lena.
Mon-El wants to talk to Kara about something important. She wants to wait until after Winn sings. However, the news shows that Winn’s father, the Toymaker, has died in prison. Winn leaves the bar and James follows him to talk to him.
There’s only a handful of people at the funeral, all there for Winn. As the casket is being lowered, a woman calls Winn by name and asks if he recognises her. It’s his mother. She’s happy to see him – it doesn’t appear to be mutual – and says they’re finally safe. Then the coffin starts playing music and Supergirl swoops in as it explodes.
Alec checks Winn’s mother, Mary, out at the DEO. Kara checks with Winn that his father is actually dead. Winn had a lot of people confirm it. J’onn wants to check out the explosive residue. Alex reports Mary has a clean bill of health and wants to talk to Winn. M’yrnn wants ten dollars; he ordered pizza and the delivery person was tackled by security. The pizza is for the dinner with Kara and Alex. J’onn says they are cooking it. Alex says she’ll go with M’yrnn and Supergirl tells J’onn to go as well.
Mon-El still wants to talk but first apologises. He never knew how Kara felt when he lied to her about who he was. Now, he does, as Imra lied to him. She and Brainy kept some Legion business from him and he thinks Kara should hear it.
Mary heads to see Winn. She wants to talk; he does not. But they do, in private. Mary says she left Winn because his father threatened to kill Winn if she didn’t. When he died, she thought they were safe. Winn is still not happy and explains why, as she left him when he needed it most. He opens the door and sees people running. A message is being written in the sky, ‘SURRENDER MARY’, by flying monkeys. Then the monkeys attack. They seem to be after Winn.
The Toymaker may be dead but someone seems to be taking on his role. Winn definitely have issues with his mother. There are problems with M’yrnn. James is trying to contact Lena, but she seems to have dropped off the map after her realising something about Sam in the previous episode, “Both Sides Now”, until the end. And Mon-El eventually manages to tell Kara what the Legion’s real mission is.
