“Girl of Steel” is episode one of season three of Supergirl.
Supergirl is imagining being with Mon-El and her mother as she floats above the city, listening. She hears sirens and heads there, as Kate and Maggie pursue a truck. They swerve to avoid a grenade, and then the truck slows, causing them to crash into the back. The back doors open and a man is standing there with a gatling gun. Supergirl flies in the way just as he opens fire. She ends up fighting the gunner on the roof, then tosses him off. He lands on a car and walks away. There’s a car in the way of the truck and Supergirl stops the truck, then flies off.
At the DEO, Supergirl asks J’onn and Winn about the one that got away. She also has a sample of blood on her hand. She thinks she should have done more, but Alex, J’onn and Winn all reassure her it was a win. Alex invites Supergirl to an hors d’ouevres tasting for the wedding; Supergirl says she will go if she’s not busy. After Supergirl leaves, Winn says she’s gone from Little Miss Sunshine to, well, Alex.
Morgan Edge is talking at a meeting about rebuilding the city. Lena and James are there. The Girl of Steel statue will be unveiled on the waterfront, which Edge wants to demolish for redevelopment. CatCo editorials are not in favour of this, nor is Lena. Edge suggests she’s doing this for the good press. When James says she’s earned it, Edge suggests that Lena is donating money out of guilt for what was done by her brother, her mother and her.
Cat is on the news as the press secretary as James and Kara are talking. In James’s office, he wants a recap on progress on the next issue. Including how Kara is doing with that Supergirl interview. Poorly, it seems. After the meeting, edge appears on the news; he’s buying CatCo.
Kara meets with Lena; Lena says Edge has been quietly buying up shares until today when he tendered an offer. Kara suggests Lena speak to Edge. Lena tells her that Edge doesn’t respect any opinion not his own, especially one from a woman. Kara reminds Lena that she helped Supergirl save the world. She gets going when she hears about a burglary.
Maggie, J’onn, Winn, James and Kate are talking about Kara. They’re all somewhat worried. Winn says the missing mercenary has been tracked down; Supergirl will meet them at the DEO.
The man is Robert DuBois, aka Bloodsport. Ex-military and used to work security detail at Fort Harrison outside of town. Supergirl asks Winn to contact his former CO; Winn reports the base server is down. It’s been hacked.
Supergirl heads there. Guards are down and there’s a lead-lined building. She goes inside and is scanned, then blasted, by something unseen. Two soldiers enter and are also attacked. Supergirl uses her eye beams on what turns out to be a cloaked Daxamite warship. It decloaks and Bloodsport drops out and runs off. Supergirl has to remain to check the injured soldier. Then hears James’ watch beeper.
She’s not happy to discover that James used it to talk about the article. He’s worried about her. Supergirl may be doing her job but Kara isn’t. Kara still has a life. Supergirl doesn’t think Kara’s life has any meaning now and quits.
Supergirl is definitely not herself, and she sees no point in being Kara any more. As well as the issue with what Bloodsport has been stealing, there are also two threads, or possibly one combined thread, of something new revealed.
