“Lost City: Part 1” is episode twenty one of season seven of Stargate SG-1.
This is a two part episode that was apparently originally intended for the big screen. This was probably because season seven was going to be the last series, which was why Dr Frasier was killed off in “Heroes: Part 2”, but the series was renewed for another three seasons.
Daniel thinks that he has discovered a repository of Ancient knowledge, similar to that O’Neill which encountered in “The Fifth Race”, and which almost killed him. This knowledge, and the location of the Lost City of the Ancients, are believed necessary to counter the growing threat of Anubis. When Anubis’s forces turn up. O’Neill sticks his head into the device again.
This episode sees the first appearance of Dr Elizabeth Weir, who would later feature in Stargate: Atlantis. Played by a different actress, though. Vice President Kinsey briefs Dr Weir on the Stargate Program. General Hammond is relieved and Dr Weir is placed in charge of the SGC, which is then shut down for three months. Then Master Bra’tac arrives, saying that Anubis’s fleet is only three days out. Kinsey makes out that this is all a ploy, presumably because that’s what he would do in those circumstances. He really isn’t a particularly popular person for a politician.
The story continues in the season finale, “Lost City: Part 2”.
