“Collateral Damage” is episode twelve of season nine of Stargate SG-1.
Mitchell wakes up, his hands covered in blood and with the memory of beating a woman to death, and he is promptly arrested. Then, the episode goes back 24 hours. SG-1 is visiting another planet, and Mitchell is experiencing the memory of another person, which was copied and then spliced into Mitchell’s. The developers want to exchange the memory technology in exchange for help with building starships.
With memory transference technology existing, Mitchell can’t trust that the memories he woke up with are actually his. Probably because they aren’t. Daniel had been worried about the consequences of misusing the technology, and rightly so.
Mitchell had been getting friendly with the lead scientist on the project, who was annoyed because the project was going to be taken over by the military. He is quickly released, but Mitchell forces a full investigation.
If you can’t trust that your memories are your own, what can you trust?
