“Resistance” is episode twelve of season two of Star Trek: Voyager.
Neelix leaves a building and enters what looks like a market. He hands something over to Captain Janeway; she, Tuvok and B’Elanna are all out of uniform. The captain scans what Neelix gave her and smiles at the other two. She tells Neelix they need the container completely filled and have no time to haggle over the price, and Neelix heads back to the building. Tuvok points out some black-clad soldiers who enter the market. As the three attempt to leave, they are attacked and Janeway attempts to contact the ship, but takes a glancing blow to the neck from a weapon. Someone steals her com badge before a local drives him off and Tuvok and B’Elanna are captured.
Chakotay is in engineering and Harry asks him if there’s been any word on the tellerium. The antimatter reaction rate is down to 12% and when it falls below 9% the plasma injectors will lock up and they won’t be able to reinitialise the nacelles. The only way they can reduce power further is by dropping the shields. Chakotay doesn’t want to do this near a hostile planet, but this is there last option so he agrees. Which helps, but there’s nothing else they can do now.
Neelix contacts the ship; the rest of the away team is gone, taken by the Mokra. What should he do? Yes, he has the tellerium so Chakotay tells Neelix he’s needed back on Voyager. He’s beamed back as Chakotay tries contacting the others but to no avail. The tellerium improves the reaction rate; Harry says they need to power up the warp drive to see if there’s been any damage.
Neelix doesn’t know what happened to the others, but he spoke to witnesses and is sure it was the Mokra. As to how the Mokra knew the away team was there, they have informants everywhere. Neelix trusts his contact, because he doesn’t think he would have made it back otherwise and said contact is involved in the resistance. Harry tries the engines, and they’re running fine.
Chakotay and Neelix head to the bridge to contact the Mokra. Tom is told to bring the ship from behind the moon and into a standard orbit. Neelix says the Mokra are paranoid and have little use for diplomacy. He wouldn’t be surprised if they start firing immediately.
They are hailed by third magistrate Augris of the Mokra Order. Chakotay explains that some of their crew were lost on the surface. Which is against regulations; Augris will transmit a copy for future reference. He will look into the suggestion that the crew were detained. Neelix, afterwards, doesn’t think he will.
Tuvok and B’Elanna are locked up. They are concerned about the captain; they have no proof she is either alive or dead. Janeway is alive and she wakes up. The man who drove away the thief comes over as she notices her com badge is gone. He offers her a drink and is pleased his little girl is home, calling her Ralkana. The man, Caylem, thinks her being a starship captain is a story. He doesn’t have any communications equipment. She asks what happened to the others and is told they were taken to the prison. Caylem wants to go to the prison too – so they can get Ralkana’s mother out.
Chakotay meets with Augris on Voyager. Some of Augris’s colleagues are cautious about dealing with a disreputable ship; they’ve made more enemies than friends since arriving from the Alpha Quadrant. Some don’t even believe that story. Augris does, though. Chakotay wants to talk to his crew. Augris wants to know more about what they are doing. After Chakotay talks to the crew. After Augris leaves, Chakotay tells Neelix he wants an alternative.
On the planet, Augris is interrogating Tuvok and B’Elanna. Tuvok denies they are helping the resistance and supplying them with weapons. They can’t give any names because they don’t know any. Augris has heard that many times before, and Tuvok is taken away.
Soldiers are searching for the captain, and they are getting closer. She wants to leave before they arrive. Caylem wants to head to the prison with her, but Janeway refuses. Until the soldiers arrive and knock on the door, and they have to flee together.
Captain Janeway is attempting to find a way into the prison from the outside on the ground. On Voyager, Chakotay is trying to find a way to get inside the prison as well, but it’s shielded, which makes matters more difficult. The Mokra are just as unfriendly as Neelix said they would be. Caylem’s grip on reality seems a little uncertain, for reasons that are made clear during the episode.
