“Endgame” is episode twenty-five of season seven of Star Trek: Voyager and the first part of the two-part season and series finale.
Fireworks are erupting over San Francisco as Voyager is flying above. This is a news story and the announcer is saying they should be familiar, of Voyager‘s triumphant return after 23 years in the Delta Quadrant. This is the 10th anniversary and Captain Janeway shuts it off as the announcer is mentioning corruption charges as she’s looking over San Francisco.
At Voyager‘s reunion, Harry is speaking to a young girl; Naomi’s daughter. He’s been away for four years; after Voyager, that seems like a long weekend. Now-Admiral Janeway greets now-Captain Harry. Harry asks about Tuvok. He’s not well. Harry is sorry he missed the funeral.
The Doctor arrives with a woman and greets Tom. Tom is not in uniform and appears to now be a writer. The woman with the Doctor is his wife, Lana; they’ve been married two weeks. Tom comments on the wedding; the Doctor says they took a page from Tom’s book and eloped. He couldn’t get married without a name. The Doctor is now Joe. Tom says it took him 33 years to come up with Joe. It’s Lana’s grandfather’s name. She’s not a hologram. Tom approves. Joe asks about B’Elanna.
B’Elanna is talking to Janeway; the High Council eventually agreed to submit the House of Korath for consideration. She’d like to know why her former captain wants to help Korath. He’s a friend. Is it anything to do with the mission Janeway sent B’Elanna’s daughter on? Janeway promises she’ll be back soon.
Barclay calls for everyone to propose a toast. And Janeway proposes to those not there to celebrate. Neither Seven of Nine nor Chakotay are present.
Barclay is greeting a group of cadets saying they will be taught about the Borg, and the special guest lecturer is Admiral Janeway. Two cadets have questions; Janeway would prefer not to discuss Seven of Nine. She then gets a message and leaves.
Janeway is speaking to someone, probably Tom and B’Elanna’s daughter. She has seen it and it works, but Korath wants to hand it over personally. The admiral will be there as soon as she can.
She then heads to see Tuvok, who is clearly not well and in what is probably a hospital. She wants to tell him she’s going away and may not see him again. She leaves him a photo of Voyager‘s crew.
Doctor Joe arrives at the admiral’s to give her her physical. The first time in 33 years she has asked for one ahead of schedule. She’s in perfect health. The admiral asks about an experimental drug that’s being developed to protect biomatter from tachyon radiation. Joe says it’s showing promise. The admiral wants 200 mg. Barclay has also downloaded material for Janeway and says there’s a shuttle waiting. She then heads to talk to what seems like, and is, a grave. Chakotay’s. Janeway says it must have been hard living without her all these years. When she’s through, things might be better for all of them.
In the past, B’Elanna is trying to wake Tom. It’s time. For what? She will give him one guess. Tom contacts the Doctor who tells him to remain calm and report to sickbay. Tom asks if he should bring B’Elanna. Yes, her too. In sickbay, the Doctor tells them this is false labour. Again. B’Elanna wants it out. Tom says they are not getting any sleep. The Doctor essentially promises this will only get worse.
Chakotay briefs the captain in the morning; Harry has started a pool as to when the baby will be born. And someone wants to take over from Neelix in the mess hall full time. Chakotay has plans for lunch. Which turn out to be having a picnic with Seven in the cargo bay. Her research indicated this is an appropriate third date.
Icheb manages to beat Tuvok at kal-toh. It seems that the illness Tuvok had in the future is already developing. Seven’s research into dates was with Neelix; she’s also playing kadis-kot with him over subspace after he remained behind in “Homestead”.
It can probably be guessed, given what Admiral Janeway is doing and there are things from both the present and future, that Future Janeway has plans of a temporal nature and intends to alter the past. The story continues in the next episode, “Endgame, Part II”.
