“Rajiin” is episode four of season three of Star Trek: Enterprise.
The Xindi council is being told by someone called Degra about an accident that destroyed most of the lab and killed three researchers. It will delay them by months. The reptilians don’t want to wait any longer. Degra says they’re building a weapon to destroy an entire world; do they not understand how difficult and dangerous this is? There was an alternative idea that was rejected. Though not by the insectoids and reptilians. They lack enough information on humans. Which some think can be remedied. More time will be given to Degra. But if it takes too long, they will consider all options.
T’Pol is applying neuropressure to Trip. He says they need to talk; he’s not sure they should do it any more. Yes, it’s helping, but people are talking about him coming to T’Pol’s quarters at night. They think more is going on. T’Pol asks if it disturbs Trip. It shouldn’t, but it does. Reed made a comment about magic hands. T’Pol isn’t bothered. And they’re both senior officers; if they were pursuing a romantic relationship, it’s no concern of Lieutenant Reed’s.
Captain Archer jerks awake after a nightmare and scratches. Dr Phlox, when the captain sees him, tells him not to; it will take longer to heal. And use the ointment. Phlox asks about Trellium-D; the captain found someone who claims to be able to synthesize it. Phlox hopes so; an anomaly broke Cutler’s arm when it went through the biology lab. He asks if the captain has any other symptoms. Bad dreams about the alien city. Phlox reminds the captain that, in the previous episode, “Extinction”, he was transformed into a different species. Don’t expect to recover overnight.
Trip, Reed and the captain head down from Enterprise in a shuttlepod to a floating city. There, they find the shop belonging to the chemist, B’Rat, who said he could synthesize Trellium-D. B’Rat remembers them. Trellium-A is common and cheap. Trellium-D is not. He also remembers their interest in the Xindi. Some arrived last week. He’d be happy to tell them where the Xindi went. For a small fee. Archer suggests he give that information as a gesture of good faith whilst Trip discusses payment for the process with him.
Archer and Reed head to a merchant, Zjot, whose sole stock appears to be attractive women from different species. The Xindi left orbit two days ago. He won’t say where they were going. Why don’t they buy a female instead? One of them is looking at the captain very intently. Trip then contacts Archer; they’ve agreed a price and need to go back to the ship for the payment. As the two leave, the woman ruins after them and begs to be taken with them. After a fight with Zjot, the captain brings her along.
Phlox examines the woman; he finds her eyes intriguing due to their complexity. The captain arrives in sickbay and Phlox tells him the woman is in perfect health. She says her name is Rajiin and will serve him well. The captain says she’s free to go wherever she wants. She doesn’t remember much about her homeworld; only its name.
Reed and Trip return with B’Rat’s payment; spices. B’Rat is pleased. He has the process for synthesising liquid Trellium-D. It can only be synthesised in its liquid state and it’s just as effective as the natural ore. But follow the protocols precisely. In its liquid form, it’s extremely unstable.
It quickly becomes obvious that Rajiin is not what she seems and she wanted to be onboard Enterprise. The first attempt to synthesize Trellium-D does not go well. T’Pol says, with serious understatement, that they made a slight error in their calculations.
