“The Muse” is episode twenty-one of season four of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Lwaxana Troi has arrived on the station looking for Odo’s help. She’s married and pregnant and she’s fleeing from her husband. In her husband’s culture, children are raised by the members of the same sex until they are 16 – in fact, they don’t know there’s another sex – and the child she’s expecting is a boy, and she refuses to give him up. Odo comes up with a plan that involves him marrying her.
A strange woman has also arrived on the station and seeks Jake out. She apparently has known a lot of talented artists over the years, and helps them be creative. Now, she’s picked Jake.
This isn’t as altruistic as it sounds; she gets something from said artists in return. She helps Jake start writing his novel, but the process starts affecting his health detrimentally.
