“…Nor the Battle to the Strong” is episode four of season five of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Jake and Dr. Bashir are returning to the station in a runabout from a medical conference where Julian was giving a presentation. Jake had been hired to write an article on the doctor, but he finds it boring. They receive a message from a Federation colony that is under attack by Klingons – the ceasefire arranged in “Apocalypse Rising” seems to have fallen through – and which needs medical help.
Julian doesn’t want to take Jake into battle, but the former convinces him that his help is needed. Jake also thinks reporting from a colony under attack will be far more exciting than reporting on a medical conference.
That is, until Jake actually witnesses what happens in battle. It’s a lot less exciting, and a lot more terrifying, when you are helping with all the injured that war produces, and when you come under fire yourself. Jake comes face to face with the horrors of war, and find himself to be lacking on first contact with them.
Very little of the others in this episode; it’s mostly about Jake and, to a lesser extent, Julian Bashir.
