“In the Hands of the Prophets” is episode twenty of season one of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the season finale.
A Vedek, a Bajoran religious leader, is visiting the station, and she takes exception to Keiko O’Brien’s teachings in her school, for she is only teaching the scientific facts about the wormhole, and not the Bajorans religious beliefs.
The Vedek is a candidate for the position of Kai, the leader of the Bajoran religion, as the previous Kai, Opaka, was lost in Battle Lines.
Vedek Winn is an outside candidate at best, and it looks like her objection has less to do with religion than it has to do with politics. She seems like the sort of truly unpleasant person willing to do what it takes to get what she wants. Unrest is stirred up on DS9, and things start to get a bit nasty.
Meanwhile, one of O’Brien’s crew has disappeared, without actually leaving the station.
