“Doctor Bashir, I Presume?” is episode sixteen of season five of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Dr. Lewis Zimmerman arrives on the station and makes Dr. Bashir an offer to make him immortal. He offers to make Bashir the model for the next generation of the Emergency Medical Holographic Program – as seen on Star Trek: Voyager. As the original EMH’s image was based on Zimmerman’s own image, which means Robert Picardo, who plays the EMH hologram in that program (and who also appeared in all three of the Stargate series, for varying lengths).
The new version of the EMH is also going to be a new model, the LMH, the Longterm Medical Hologram, which is intended to operate for longer periods of time. Which is actually what the original EMH is currently doing on Voyager, although they don’t know that.
Zimmerman is going to interview Bashir’s friends, and family members, as well as the good doctor himself. This causes problems for Julian, and he doesn’t want his parents interviewed. This is because Julian has a secret that he doesn’t want revealed. Zimmerman is also a bit irritating. Rom is trying to ask Leeta out, but Zimmerman also finds her attractive, and is rather more forward.
Julian’s father is a bit of a chancer, and when Julian was younger, he decided to improve his child. What Julian’s parents did is illegal, and can cause problems for them all, due to the problems caused by Khan Noonien Singh and the Eugenics Wars. Of course, the information does come out, and things take a turn for the worse.
