“Cardassians” is episode five of season two of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Dr. Bashir and Garak are having a drink on the Promenade when a Bajoran with a Cardassian child arrive. Garak goes over to speak to them, and the boy bites his hand.
It seems that the Cardassian is an orphan who was left behind when the Cardassians evacuated, and has been adapted by a Bajoran family. He hates the Cardassians for what they did to Bajor.
Gul Dukat gets involved in the situation with surprising speed, having found out about the attack before Sisko did. He requests that the Cardassian child be returned back to his people. The boy, however, doesn’t want to go.
When it turns out that the boy is the, presumed dead, child of an important Cardassian politician, one who is, moreover, a political opponent of Dukat, Garak convinces Julian to investigate further, as he stays that there is something more going on.
Claims had been made that the boy was being abused, but these do not seem to be valid.
Plain, simple Garak is probably not the plain, simple Garak he claims to be.
