“The Wish” is episode thirteen of season two of Special Unit 2 and the season and series finale.
Jerry, turning up again, tells a friend that he bought a box at an auction for 8 bucks. His friend is leaving; he’s been kicked out. Jerry is pleased to find a Mork & Mindy lunchbox. When he opens it, a woman comes out. She says it’s his lucky day. She’s there to give him whatever he wants, wherever he wants, however he wants. He just has to wish for it. Jerry asks if she’s a genie. Yes, but he only gets one wish. Jerry wishes for a supermodel he has posters of. She disappears. Jerry returns home later to find said supermodel. Tied, gagged and in a bag. He’s gushing about how much he loves her when the police arrive and arrest him. Later, his friend returns.
Nick is at an apartment of a woman, Zoey. His relationship with her seems different to his normal ones. In that it is a relationship. She’s also not his usual type. Zoey has a gift for him. A key to her apartment. She doesn’t want him to move in, just take thinks to the next level. Exchanging keys. Nick is a bit speechless. Fortunately, he ends up being saved by a call.
At the precinct, Jonathan starts explaining that they have a Djinn, a demon or spirit lower than an angel. They emerge from containers and grant wishes. That’s all they can do. Other than becoming gas, they lack special powers. So, to grant a wish, they have to physically do it. When Jerry wished for a supermodel, the Djinn had to knock her out and kidnap her. Djinn spend most of their time solid; they can only spend a bit of time gaseous without diffusing. The containers are lined with their gas, though. During this, a man with a clipboard has been watching and using a stopwatch.
Marnie says Djinn choose containers carefully, as they don’t want to get stuck as wish-granting machines. Nick asks why they are so determined to grant wishes, given they have to bottle themselves afterwards. Jonathan doesn’t know. They also can’t be killed, only bottled. Marnie has a list of known Djinn; only one, going by Natalie, hasn’t been bottled.
Marnie has made something that will work like a tranquiliser that will give them enough time to bottle Natalie in a special bag. Natalie’s gases contain radon, which is radioactive, and she can be tracked with a Geiger counter. Only the Mork & Mindy lunchbox had traces. But Clay, Jerry’s friend, was seen after Jerry was arrested. Afterwards, Jonathan tries to invite Marnie to a concert. She’d love to go, but is going to another with her sister.
Nick and Kate find Carl beating up his phone – his mother put him on hold, someone stole the airbag from his BMW and no-one cares it’s his birthday – and ask him to get details on Natalie.
In the car, Nick talks about Zoey giving him her key. Kate says to break up; he’s not ready for a relationship. She’s anti-relationship at the moment. She does advise Nick buy Zoey jewellery. But nothing she needs a new piercing for. Then Carl calls.
Carl’s contact is in a well. He needs paying for information. Carl; has swiped a woman’s handbag; Kate gives it back. A penny is dropped in. Will says Natalie is a Djinn and they grant wishes. They want more, he needs more than a penny. Given more money, Will explains that Natalie is really evil; and hates humans, but pretends to be nice to get her masters to make a wish. That’s all she cares about. No-one has heard from her in 15 years. When she was three away. From 3,000 wishes. At that point, she gains free will, can’t be trapped or bottled and can do whatever she wants whenever she wants. Which is torture and kill people for fun.
Natalie appears to Clay and gets him to make a wish. Meaning she now has 2,999 wishes down and only one left. If she’s not caught in time, they have problems.
Kate is giving Nick relationship advice, Jonathan is worrying about the man with the clipboard and Carl is upset everyone is ignoring his birthday.
