“The Invisible” is episode four of season two of Special Unit 2.
A teenage girl is beyond flirting with a boy when the kid she’s babysitting for calls for her. The boy, Murphy, says that the bogeyman came in and went into the closet. She goes to look and Murphy begs her not to open the closet door. She opens it and says there’s nothing there. Murphy tells her to run. Because something is coming out of the closet. It grabs the girl and pulls her in.
The boy is being taken away by the cops, as is the body, when Kate and Nick arrive. They check the body and ask where the head is. The EMTs don’t know; they looked everywhere. The detective isn’t happy to see them and says this is a textbook copycat killing. Inside, Murphy is telling his parents that the girl couldn’t see the bogeyman as he’s being led away. Alice greets Nick and Kate and explains her strategy for dealing with the press. In the room, they wonder why the link came in, ignored the easy target in the bed, hid in the closet to lop off the head of a teen girl. Nick has seen a kid outside making notes.
Johnathan explains that they don’t know much about the Bogeyman; it hunts at nights and collects heads as trophies. And you can’t see him. Adults, anyway; at puberty, you lose the ability. It’s too risky to use kids but supposedly a Banshee can see them. Captain Page checks in, a bit weirdly. Nick and Kate follow him. It seems Page’s first case as commander of Special Unit 2 was dealing with a murder they knew a Bogeyman had committed. But the DA was up for election and needed an arrest. He got one. James Thomas. His son saw his mother killed by the Bogeyman. Thomas is scheduled to die this week. They need physical proof he didn’t do it. Foreign DNA was found at the scene, but it couldn’t be matched to anything. The son is now in foster care.
Nick and Kate head there. Stopping on the way for Nick to cherry bomb a mailbox. Which has Carl in it. Carl is convinced to find them a Banshee.
The kid who was taking notes at the murder scene breaks back into foster care; he’s Jake Thomas. Nick and Kate are waiting for him. They talk about the Bogeyman; Jake will tell them everything if he’s the one to catch him. As they’re going, Jake tells them to go to a park that night.
Waiting at the park, Kate, with her whole Gargoyle experience, can understand Jake’s distrust of people. A man gets out of a truck and things are being knocked around. Nick realises the Bogeyman is there. They head towards the truck as the man is lifted into the trees by something invisible. Nick turns on the sprinklers, revealing a shape, which he shoots at. Wet footprints lead away. Something in the trees is watching Nick.
Nick tells Johnathan what happened. Johnathan takes a long-winded way to explain that the Bogeyman is a hunter and Nick is one of the animals he hunts. And the animal shot at him. That’s not something the Bogeyman will allow and he’ll be after Nick. Alice arrives and explains how she’s covered up the thing in the park.
Carl has a baseball bat and tells Nick he has a Banshee. Marshall. The bat is to hit Marshall with. Marshall needs to be hit multiple times by Carl and Nick. They get some Banshee saliva; apparently, that’s how Banshees can see Bogeymen. Johnathan thinks he can make a serum from the saliva to allow them to see the Bogeyman too.
Jake really wants to get involved with finding the Bogeyman, because his father is running out of time. And the Bogeyman really wants Nick dead for shooting at him. The whole thing has a definite Predator vibe.
