“Slide Like an Egyptian” is episode fourteen (and originally shown as that) of season three of Sliders.
The Sliders are on a world where Los Angeles is dotted with pyramids and Egyptian items. The professor says on their world Alexander the Great put an end to Egypt; on this world perhaps it was Alexander the not so Great (though everyone still speaks English). A paper says the Pharaoh will be sealed in his tomb tomorrow. Wade is looking at a post box when she notices the others have gone.
Several people and guards are leaving a hospital with a crate containing something large and alive. Whatever’s inside breaks the crate and grabs hold of a woman. Wade hears and rushes to help as no-one else is doing so. The other three arrive and are blocked by guards, though Quinn gets past and helps both get free. They touched the sacred scarab whilst doing so, which seems bad. The leader is the Kheri-Heb – until the next Pharaoh takes office, he is a god – says that Wade and the woman, Sheilah, are to be taken to the pyramid and Quinn to Dr Achtbit.
Rembrandt is sneaking into the hospital in an orderly’s uniform with a body. A doctor tells him to wait, but he runs off into the Necrology Ward.
Wade and Sheilah are in the back of a van. Sheilah explains that the creature is a genetically engineered scarab and is sacred to her people. It will be sealed inside the tomb with the Pharaoh’s personal slaves to guard against thieves. The slaves are its food and they are going to join them. The van stops and a guard takes Sheilah. Another comes for Wade but the professor knocks him down and explains to Wade that Rembrandt has gone after Quinn and they’ll meet at the hotel.
Quinn, however, has been completely exsanguinated and is dead when Rembrandt arrives. Rembrandt accuses Achtbit of murder but has to leave when security is called. When the other two get back to the hotel, Rembrandt explains what happened. Quinn, meanwhile, is seeing a vision of his father who says it’s not his time.
The other three are feeling terrible. The professor says they should do something to give Quinn’s death significance and Rembrandt suggests finishing what Quinn started and rescuing Sheilah. The professor says they can slide from the pyramid if needed.
Quinn is being brought back to life after being dead for 5 minutes. By the sounds of it, he’s the first to be successfully revived. Another doctor, Deera Mubaric, introduces herself to Quinn. She wants to hear what he saw whilst he was dead. Quinn won’t tell her anything unless she takes him to the hotel.
Rembrandt and the professor take Wade to the pyramid, claiming they have caught the escaped slave, and get inside. There are only 90 seconds before they slide. They find Sheilah. When hearing that Quinn died, she explains that they were conducting experiments where patients were killed and then revived to find out their afterlife experiences. He might still be alive even though they hadn’t been successful yet. However, it’s time to leave. The professor activates the timer, but all three choose to stay.
Unfortunately, the timer activation resulted in the scarab breaking free. It seems that sliding is known on this world, though restricted to royalty. The other three are now trapped inside the pyramid with a giant scarab. Quinn discovers the others are not at the hotel and Mubaric says he wouldn’t have had much time with them anyway. Because of his tumour. It seems her experimental subjects are supposed to be terminal, but in Quinn’s case at the very least the records were falsified.
