“Requiem” is episode eleven of season five of Sliders.
The Sliders are on an empty but paradisical world when Rembrandt is suddenly elsewhere. He sees a figure, a woman, and the others hear him say ‘Wade?’ before sitting down. Maggie explains to Diana and Mallory who Wade is.
Rembrandt isn’t responding and then he collapses. The others wonder if he was affected by the last world and Maggie if he is being affected by his guilt trip over Wade. Mallory wonders if it’s an effect from sliding longer and Diana seems to think there is some merit to that.
Rembrandt sits up and says he’s back. The others tell him he never left. Rembrandt explains he was somewhere else, and someone was with him who sounded like Wade. He saw her and a lot of other things too.
They decide to sleep until the next slide. A vortex opens and Rembrandt sits up. He tells the others to wake but by the time they do, it’s gone. Rembrandt says they’ve missed the slide. Maggie tells him they have 45 minutes. They say Rembrandt was dreaming.
When they slide, they slide directly onto a bed in the Chandler Hotel. They have 10 hours until the next slide. Rembrandt is still tired and wants another nap. Diana suggests that Rembrandt might not just be tired; it could be physical or neurological. Mallory is worried that Rembrandt might wig out in a crisis.
Rembrandt is seeing himself in one cell and Wade in another. Two Kromaggs drag her off as she begs Rembrandt to help. He bolts awake and the others tell him he was dreaming. Rembrandt doesn’t think it was a dream. He can buy he never left the room but he thinks Wade was trying to contact him.
Diana is looking for professional help in the Yellow Pages; Maggie is a bit snippy. Mallory is telling Rembrandt there’s not much chance Wade is still alive. Rembrandt is sure she is and they have to find her. Then he gets a pain in his head and the vortex appears again. Mallory sees it and calls the others back in. Mallory says if it is a dream, they are in it too. Diana uses her instruments and says it wasn’t a standard wormhole. Rembrandt says it’s a doorway. He doesn’t know where to, but they have to go through it next time it appears. Wade told him.
Rembrandt explains that it’s like he’s living in Wade’s memories and she needs their help. She’s on the other side of the doorway calling to him. Diana suggests maybe he has a psychic link. Mallory doesn’t want to go straight through and Diana wants time to analyse stuff, but Rembrandt says there’s no time. Maggie will go with him and, when the doorway appears, everyone goes through.
They arrive on another world and Rembrandt says this is the world he saw in Wade’s images. Rembrandt remembers Wade and feels like a coward for not helping her. They hear a sound and have to hide from a manta ship. Rembrandt is sure Wade hasn’t lured them into a trap. Mallory speaks to Diana; Rembrandt was separated from them on the utopian world. How can they be sure this is their Rembrandt? Diana says it’s nonsense. But it makes her think.
They find a Kromagg medical lab and Rembrandt can feel Wade. It’s getting stronger. Her thoughts brought them to this world. He’s told to follow the link. Rembrandt hears Wade warning him about being careful as the Kromaggs have a new weapon.
Rembrandt is unconscious and Mallory is worried. Diana considers sedating Rembrandt with some Kromagg medication, even though she can’t read what it is. Rembrandt comes around and can’t blame them for not believing him. He will stay on his own to find Wade. Mallory tells him when Mallory was brainwashed, Rembrandt threw him into a vortex. It was the right thing to do, and he will do the same. But they agree to give Rembrandt an hour.
Rembrandt is hearing Wade and it seems like she isn’t dead. But the Kromaggs are not nice people and they quickly find further evidence of this.
