“Normandy” is episode seventeen of season three of Sanctuary.
This episode opens in Normandy, France, on June 5, 1944. An SS tank is halted by a checkpoint and the officer in charge of the checkpoint asks where the tank commander is headed. The Major doesn’t seem convinced by the commander’s explanation as to what they are doing an eventually demands the commander and his crew to leave the tank. The commander – who is Dr. Watson – refuses, the tank buttons up and opens fire on the checkpoint. Magnus is also inside the tank and Nigel Griffin, the Invisible Man is outside.
It’s been hinted a few times that Magnus was involved in World War II in some way (Magnus particularly avoided answering the question directly in “Hero II: Broken Arrow”). General Eisenhower is apparently waiting a signal from Magnus as to when to invade. Magnus and the others (Tesla is back in Portsmouth at the headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force) are investigating an experimental weapon that the Nazis have been rumoured to have developed and asks their Resistance contact if she knows of anything unusual happening in the area. Which she does. The device can control the weather, and it could sink the invasion fleet.
Things do not go to plan, as it seems that someone knew they were coming and Watson is captured by the SS. And then turned over to Druitt, who seems to be working with the Nazis. Which would be bad. Only it seems that even Druitt – Jack the Ripper – considers the Nazis to be pure evil, and has tried to stop Hitler himself. And failed. So he wanted the others to come too, because he believes the weather machine is only part of something bigger, and worse, planned by the Nazis. And this plan needs stopping.
Much of the colour has been drained from the episode and it is all set in 1944 Normandy. There’s a Captain Jack Zimmerman who plays a role and Tesla’s machine from “Trail of Blood” makes an appearance.
