“Monsoon” is episode four of season four of Sanctuary.
The episode opens in the sanctuary with Will and Henry talking. In the previous episode, “Untouchable”, the Sanctuary Network got cut off from all its official backing thanks to Greg Addison. However, Magnus’ slow trek back to the present after the events of “Tempus” had given her time to think, and she had decided that the Sanctuaries needed to become independent. So Magnus and Will played Addison, making him think he had found something in order to get what was wanted. Magnus said she had bank accounts that Addison didn’t know about (given her foreknowledge the second time around, it’s surprising she isn’t loaded).
The Sanctuary now has no commercial banking, has lost all of its law enforcement and military contacts and no longer gets breaks on its heating or property tax from the mayor’s office. So, perhaps Magnus didn’t invest a chunk of money back in the 19th century. Magnus is meeting a man called Feodor Glazov on Grande Comore off the coast of Madagascar. Glazov apparently lives on his plane, which is commented on as being very Bond villain, and he arranges a place to meet.
Magnus is waiting in the airport on Grande Comore, getting to know some of her fellow travellers – sometimes without wanting to. Then a small prop plane lands and the people who get out shoot the approaching ground crew. There are other armed people in the airport, and they have taken control of it. Their leader says that they are going to rob everyone present blind, using their bank details and transferring the money. The person waiting who says he has no money, they shoot.
When one of the others pulls a hidden gun and shoots the leader in the chest before running away, one of the other assailants reacts by screaming with enough force to level a wall. At which point Magnus realises that they are Abnormals – the leader is not injured – and probably ex-military black ops. Which is true, and they were going to be ‘decommissioned.’ As in killed. Magnus also realises that they are after Glazov himself. What the attackers don’t realise, at least not immediately, is just how dangerous Magnus herself is, and they end up with an on the loose and annoyed Magnus after them.
Back at the Sanctuary, Will is waiting for Abby who has been promoted to Special Agent and got a new job. She doesn’t reveal what the new job is, but when Abby and Will both get a work-related call at the same time, it doesn’t come as a great surprise when Abby’s new job causes conflict between her and Will.
