Sanctuary – Metamorphosis

“Metamorphosis” is episode fourteen of season three of Sanctuary.

Will has overslept and Kate is knocking on his door saying that he is late for the staff meeting. Will quickly dresses and rushes to the meeting. When Will arrives there, Henry asks what’s up with his face. There is something on Will’s face and Magnus decides it needs investigating, so she and Henry dress in biohazard gear. Which is not reassuring. Will asks to see his face and Magnus agrees. Henry hands will a mirror. There is some sort of scaly pattern on part of Will’s face and neck.

Will tries to pull off a scale, which is painful, and Magnus enters and suggests he not do that. She is no longer wearing the biohazard helmet, as the tests show that whatever Will has, it isn’t contagious. Magnus doesn’t know what it is that Will has, and he hadn’t really noticed any symptoms other than tiredness. Magnus asks Will if he’s done anything unusual in the past week. Given what they do, not the best question. To keep Will busy whilst they wait for his full body scans to come back, Magnus gives him a bunch of reports to complete.

Magnus has discovered spores from some sort of plant/animal hybrid that is altering Will’s DNA. She thinks it should be possible to stop it. This may have been an overly optimistic assumption. The change is spreading across Will, and he notices that his fingers are getting sticky. He appears to be turning into your friendly, neighbourhood gecko-man. This means that Magnus’ initial assumption was incorrect. Will realises that Magnus is really worried. Henry starts making use of Will’s ability to climb walls. This does not go well.

The next symptom that Will develops is a sensitivity to UV rays. Which Magnus says is a good thing, as this helps narrow down Will’s condition. Unfortunately, when she does, Magnus discovers that what infected him came from Hollow Earth. Will picked up the infection during the journey to Praxis. So Magnus wants to contact Ranna. Even though relations with Praxis were better by the end of “Pax Romana”, Ranna did essentially say don’t call us, we’ll call you. Not that they actually have a method of communicating with the city.

Will’s changes are accelerating and the prognosis does not look good. Lizard-Will is also becoming less cooperative.

Much of the episode is seen from Will’s point of view.
