“Hollow Men” is episode ten of season three of Sanctuary and the mid-season finale.
In the previous episode, “Vigilante”, the location of the gateway to Hollow Earth, and the city, was discovered to be in Tibet. Tesla has managed to make a shield that will stop the gateway from detecting the source blood; however, he has only managed to make one shield and there are three of them with the source blood in their systems; Tesla, Magnus and Druitt. The city in Hollow Earth is apparently the only place which can cure both Magnus and Adam Worth from the radiation poisoning they both suffered travelling through the extradimensional rift in “Breach”. As well as it being the place where Magnus’ father is.
Magnus, Will, Henry and Kate are now heading to the gateway in Tibet. Magnus is not taking Worth, even though he wants to come. Tesla and Druitt both think they should go instead of Magnus, although Druitt is the one taking them to a rather snowy region of Tibet. Before they attempt to enter the gateway, Druitt leaves, against his preferences. The gate sadly doesn’t open immediately, as ice is blocking it. It takes a bit of doing in less than wonderful conditions to open the gate. Which promptly closes after they enter.
There’s a vampire detector on the way to the city, as expected, and although they pass through the detector there is a rock fall soon after and Will and Magnus get separated from Kate and Henry. Magnus and Will are being herded along the path to the city by some sort of laser field. Both parties start making their own separate ways to the city. Just like most portrayals of Hollow Earth, there are big scary monsters in it as well. The people in the city might not be friendly either. Possibly for good reason.
Back at the Sanctuary, Worth – the Hyde portion of his personality anyway – is deliberately antagonising Tesla and Druitt. The latter two are also concerned when they lose the signal from the others due to the rockslide, although they don’t know why, as yet. Both combined will probably lead to Tesla and Druitt seeking help from Worth.
There’s a bit of a cliff-hanger ending leading in to the next episode, “Pax Romana”. Polly Walker, who plays Charlotte Dupres in Warehouse 13, guest stars.
