“Folding Man” is episode four of season one of Sanctuary.
This episode opens with a pawn shop being robbed by two men. When the owner trips the silent alarm and the police arrive, one of the robbers shoots him. Both run out, one of them into an alleyway, and then down into an old coal bunker. There, he squeezes his skull smaller and escapes through a pipe only a few inches in diameter.
This is what involves the Sanctuary. There’s an urban legend of folding men who can collapse their skeletons. The video of the robbery interests Will, because the thieves are only stealing gold. This reminds him of a case he worked in Austin when he was with the FBI and a bank vault was robbed of a lot of gold.
The investigation leads them to a group of folding men (for urban legends, it’s really easy to find a whole bunch of them). One folding man, called Nomad, is apparently addicting the others to a drug called TPG, which is gold based. It has a different effect on the folding men than it does on plain old humans.
Nomad has, through addiction to TPG and the force of his personality, convinced a bunch of folding men to go along with his plans. He’s also planning on making a move in the city, and seizing control of the drug trade, then creating an army of folding men to carry out his wishes. Although, for a criminal genius, he doesn’t exactly seem to be living it up.
