“Firewall” is episode two of season three of Sanctuary.
The episode opens with Will out of it in a car and Henry on the radio asking him where the Abnormal is. Said Abnormal – a Salamander – then leaps over the car. The Salamander is captured, but Declan suffers a broken arm as a result, and this is really Will’s fault.
Henry is concerned about Will, as the latter is getting worse, and both he and Kate want Will taken off the mission list. In the previous episode, “Kali: Part III”, Will died whilst trying to contact Kali. Properly died, as in he shouldn’t have been able to come back, but he did. Since then, he has been having problems sleeping and nothing is helping. It’s been weeks and Will isn’t improving, so he is taken off the mission list.
Magnus is back in charge of the Sanctuary Network – after Wexford went off the deep end a bit trying to stop Kali, the other heads of house removed him from the leadership position and his support disappeared. Declan is concerned that the same could easily happen to Magnus again.
Magnus is more concerned about how Kali’s tidal wave was stopped. Counter waves were caused by land-based earthquakes which nullified Kali’s wave, which would suggest beings of an equal power to Kali. Will does not remember what happened to him whilst he was dead, so he doesn’t remember meeting two other beings presumably similar to Kali (and a bunch of servants of some type as well). Kate says she has been in contact with an ex-Cabal operative who has information he wants to sell, that could give a clue to what such beings might be.
Will wants to remember what happened, as it could be important. He thinks he sees something after taking some sedatives Magnus gave him, but nothing was detected by the Sanctuary’s sensors. Seeing things can be a result of lack of sleep. Bigfoot and Henry are smelling something though, and there are actually beings inside the Sanctuary – who also seem to want to know what Will saw during his dead time. Looking for these beings at one point entails walking through darkened corridors with weapons and sensors – all that’s missing is a detector making a regular thudding sound and it could be a scene from Aliens.
Finding out what actually happened to Will when he was dead opens up a whole new series of questions.
