“Breach” is episode seven of season three of Sanctuary.
This episode opens with Magnus running through a building and then out onto the roof, Magnus appears to have been injured and is hiding from a figure that is completely covered from head to toe, including a mask on its head.. There is also a weird noise that seems associated with the figure. Magnus then covers her own head with a veiled hood before running at the figure and sending them both off the roof. Presumably, there was a good reason for doing that.
It then goes back an unspecified period of time earlier. Magnus, Will and Kate are entering a building and Will is objecting to Magnus’ use of Cold War terminology – ‘come in from the cold’ and suggests ones that are a little less dated would be more appropriate for those of them that were born more recently. He suggests Mafia terminology. They are looking for an Abnormal of an unknown species – it seems that Will and Kate always presume amphibian in that case – who wants their help. Will and Kate go one way and Magnus another as they look for whoever it was that asked for their help. Who is not rushing to meet them.
The scanners that both Kate and Magnus are using are acting up and with the Abnormal nowhere to be found, the decision is made to leave the building. Although Magnus is sure that something is wrong, she doesn’t know what. Both Will and Kate feel that the building is seriously creepy anyway. Will and Kate leave and let the door swing closed behind them. Magnus, having been momentarily distracted, turns back to the door and finds it won’t open.
Will and Kate don’t notice that Magnus is missing and, when she tries her mobile, it, too, doesn’t work. So Magnus tries smashing the door’s glass with the butt of her gun. Then shooting it. Neither works. The bullet flattens on the glass – that glass is a lot stronger than it looks. So Magnus goes looking for another exit. None of which open. Nor do any of the windows break. Then Magnus hears a noise it seems, one that was heard earlier related to the mysterious figure on the roof. Which then appears and attacks Magnus. The figure keeps appearing and disappearing – it appears to be able to teleport, and it also seems to recognise Magnus. Not just know who she is. The person also appears to be toying with Magnus.
The individual in question knows about the holographic city map they found at the end of “Firewall” – and it seems that it’s working with the two unknown beings who tried to get Will’s memories in that episode. It also knows of Magnus’ father, and it wants to know the location of the city. Other than Magnus and Tesla discovering in the previous episode, “Animus”, that the city is underground, she doesn’t know much about it. Less than Magnus’ attacker believed she did, so she doesn’t actually know what it wants. And is therefore useless. The figure has, in fact, increased Magnus’ knowledge of the city – and Magnus and the figure do have history together, some of which is revealed. The figure is also someone rather well known, under another name.
