“The Future Revealed” is episode five of season two of Mutant X.
Shalimar and Brennan are at an industrial facility; one of Ashlocke’s people has contacted them. Brennan thinks it’s odd; no-one forced them to be with Ashlocke. Shalimar – justifiably – is not so sure on that. A man appears and says there were ten of them but Ashlocke got the others before they could escape. They’ve got to get them out. It was supposed to be them all working together; now, it’s all about Ashlocke. He’s really sick but still strong and is planning something he calls his last testament. Then the man doubles over, hands something over and Ashlocke’s voice comes from him, accusing them of trying to steal the New Mutant from him. The New Mutant, controlled by Ashlocke, blasts fire everywhere and Shalimar is seeing Ashlocke too. Brennan calls in Jesse and gets himself and Shalimar out before some barrels explode.
Ashlocke is currently spouting off at his people about how they are the chosen ones and it’s time for them to reach out and grab their destiny.
Brennan and Shalimar fill in Adam what happened. Adam thinks that Ashlocke’s madness has grown. Regarding his last testament; Ashlocke doesn’t have much time left to accompany it. That makes Shalimar happy; she’ll be glad to get him out of her head. Adam hopes that as Ashlocke’s physical condition weakens, so will his mental. What the other New Mutant handed over was a flyer for The Meow Club.
Ashlocke, after finishing pontificating to the others, speaks to one of two women, Patrician, who have remained behind. He tells Patricia she will play an important role. They can’t be apart; the Links can’t be alone again. If Ashlocke goes, everyone goes. Kill them, Patricia clarifies. Yes; they will all go out together. Patricia doesn’t like that answer; truthfully, some self-serving narcissism.
Shalimar is working on a computer and it seems Ashlocke is in her mind. She’s looking at some security stuff; Ashlocke thanks her. Shalimar probably didn’t realise what she was doing. When Emma approaches, Shalimar is lost, jumping when Emma touches her. Shalimar is sure Ashlocke was there again. Can Emma help keep Ashlocke out of Shalimar’s head? It’s her mind; she can fight him. It’s time to go and Adam reminds them the mission is to save the Links, not take out Ashlocke. Shalimar would rather do the latter.
Heading in on the Double Helix, they cloak and land on the roof of the club. Shalimar and Brennan deal with the guards whilst Jesse drops through the ceiling, then lets them in. The place is empty and Emma says something is wrong. They were expected. Jesse, playing the role of Captain Obvious, says it’s a trap. Links attack, but Patricia uses her powers to shield the four. Ashlocke is planning something to hurt the others and she can’t stand for it. They flee and try to contact Adam. Ashlocke answers; he’s in the Sanctuary.
Shalimar is concerned that Ashlocke could be listening right now. Emma says she would sense it; Shalimar is not so sure. However, if Ashlocke wanted Adam dead, he’d be dead. Ashlocke has brought the other woman, Kim, with him. He wants Adam to stop him from dying. As the Double Helix approaches the Sanctuary, the hanger door doesn’t open and they’re flying at the cliff. Brennan says they should have expected that. Well, yes. They switch to manual and land and want to find another way in. Patricia doesn’t want to go in; Ashlocke will kill them.
Kim watches them land and Ashlocke is playing with Adam. Adam, when Kim picks something up, tells her not to touch it, then sends a video feed to the Double Helix when Ashlocke and Kim are distracted. Ashlocke wants Adam to keep him alive. Adam says he can’t. Can’t, or won’t? Both. If Ashlocke dies, though, he’s set up a failsafe to take out a lot of people. Not just his Links.
The others need to get into Sanctuary and try to see if they can find out what Ashlocke’s weapon is and stop it. Will Adam work on a cure for Ashlocke? He’s wanted to do so before, but Ashlocke is definitely not trustworthy.
