“No Man Left Behind” is episode six of season two of Mutant X.
Adam is in the Pentagon and he is heading to a General Sutton whether the general wants to see him or not. When he gets into the general’s office, he tells Sutton he just doesn’t know how to take no for an answer. When he created the generator, it was never to be sold for military applications. Adam knows the general bought it through a shell company and says he has no right to test it on innocent people or slaughter them through using the device. It’s being shipped to another country and Adam tells Sutton that if anything happens, it’s on his head. Sutton says he’s sure that Adam would have found out about this anyway, but he received a message a few minutes ago. Two jets were transporting the device to their allies. Both were shot down. Sutton says it isn’t his fault; Adam knows who will have to clean it up.
One pilot, Morrison, survived. He’s recorded a message whilst being held prisoner by a rebel faction. He will be returned safely in exchange for a complete end to outside intervention in their country. Any attempt at rescue will result in his immediate execution. This is being shown to the others at Sanctuary and Adam explains that the generator was built by a company he’s connected with. The country in question is a dictatorship; they haven’t had an election in 15 years. Brennan asks about the pilot; Adam tells him diplomatic means are being used to get him back. Brennan says he will be left to rot; another pilot who never came back. Adam isn’t forgetting the pilot, but if either side of the conflict gets their hands on the generator, tens of thousands of people could die.
On the Double Helix, Emma sits with Brennan. No, she wasn’t reading him when he talked about the pilot, no more than a friend would. Brennan says it’s nothing. Friends know when you’re lying. Brennan asks if Emma ever heard him talk about his father. No; just his stepfather. Brennan never really met his real dad. He was a Navy pilot, shot down in the Vietnam War behind enemy lines, eventually caught and killed. The official line was it wasn’t worth the risk to try and rescue him. It would have been worth it to Brennan.
At the rebel encampment, a soldier reports to their commander. They’ve found the plane, but not the weapon. The commander goes to the pilot and says they’ve found the plane. He isn’t that impressed that they’ve managed to find a multi-ton fighter in a field. But there’s no sign of the PVG weapon. Morrison claims ignorance.
The Double Helix heads lower because the low cloud ceiling means they can’t see a thing. Adam is concerned; they are too vulnerable. Yes, they may have stealth, but the Double Helix is invisible, not armoured, and in a war zone. He’s told they have to take the chance to find the plane. The crashed jet is located but, as they circle around to land, they get shot at and crash-land. Communications and most other systems are down, though they have the commlinks, which are short range. Brennan and Shalimar will find the PVG whilst Jesse and Emma fix the plane. Outside, Brennan and Shalimar split up.
Jesse finds Emma outside, seemingly staring into nothing. She’s watching his back and has opened up fully. She can sense anyone coming from half a mile. This means Emma is open to everything, so try to think nice thoughts. In the woods, Brennan gets a signal from the PVG beacon and sends the location to Shalimar.
In the Double Helix, Jesse gets a shock and goes outside. Emma can sense what he’s thinking and tells him not to. She’s used to such emotions from men, and with her defences up she can filter them out. Before she met Adam, she felt everything as strongly as the other person did. Emma tells Jesse she can guarantee he never has that thought again, about anyone. Ever. Though, given how she smiles after Jesse leaves, she may have been messing with him.
Brennan has found the PVG and recovers it. However, Brennan wants to go for the pilot. He disables the homing beacon and hides the PVG. Shalimar wants to go with Brennan, but Jesse says he has almost got the computers fixed and they will get Brennan’s location and go after him together. Brennan gets caught, though.
Brennan tries using the PVG’s location as a bargaining tool. The others need to fix the Double Helix so they can avoid the rebels and the government troops, recover Brennan and the pilot, as well as the PVG, then get out of there. In the process, Emma reveals new powers.
