“Divided Loyalties” is episode fifteen of season three of Mutant X.
Four people are robbing a bank. They are looking for a specific safe deposit box and blow open all four possibles. They find what they’re after, but a guard comes around and wounds one of them but is shot himself.
Lexa is showing the CCTV footage of the robbery to Shalimar and Jesse. She tells them the robbers were after a high-tech safe deposit key to another box in which there’s a stolen disc containing the Dominion’s entire genetic research programme. Jesse starts running enhancement on the robbers when Brennan arrives. He asks if they are looking to round them up and get the key back. No; infiltrate the gang as the Dominion wants the buyer. Jesse has got one of the people and Brennan recognises him, Cole. Lexa suggests using him to get in. Shalimar thinks this is a bad idea but Brennan says he can handle himself. Afterwards, Shalimar finishes playing the video. The lead robber shot and killed the injured one.
Jesse is working on a rap sheet for Brennan when he finds out that Adam made one the day Brennan joined Mutant X. All he has to do is activate it. Shalimar is still concerned at Brennan going in.
Brennan arrives somewhere and Adam’s hologram appears. Adam agrees that Brennan has a right to be angry – Brennan was butting heads frequently with Adam anyway – but Adam had to disappear for the survival of Mutant X. Brennan has to trust him. Adam always believed Brennan had potential but was unsure if he would want to be on the team. He needs to keep Adam’s existence secret from the others. Adam isn’t working for the Dominion, but they are scared and when they’re scared, they’re dangerous. Brennan isn’t interested in listening.
Inside, Brennan speaks to Cole and catches him with a fake history up as Shalimar watches. Brennan wants a job. Cole is working on something but he’s just the driver. Brennan just wants an introduction. Cole agrees. Shalimar tells Lexa and Jesse. Jesse has found the person who put the key in the box, but he’s having problems with an ID.
Cole introduces Brennan to the others. They need a new circuit guy and Cole bigs Brennan up. The leader, Ethan, isn’t impressed and tells two people who take Brennan out into the alley and have some fun. Shalimar is concerned, but she needn’t have been. The one who attacks Brennan comes off second best then Brennan zaps two people with guns. Brennan is now in. Jesse has identified the mystery man, Michael Hayes, but his records have been deleted. Lexa asks if it could have been done by the Dominion. Brennan is speaking to Ethan, who questions Brennan about his story. Jesse fills in the answers to questions, but can’t answer one of them. Adam provides the answer.
Lexa asks her contact about Hayes. He used to be an operative for the Dominion but is no longer of concern. Lexa asks if he’s dead. He wants her to find out who is being sold the disc. It threatens the Dominion’s survival.
Brennan fills Jesse in who asks Brennan to clone Ethan’s phone. Brennan does, though Cole spots him in the office. He wants Brennan not to mess up, because Cole vouched for him. They have a job; boosting an armoured car. An empty armoured car at that. One of the guards sees Cole’s face and Ethan wanted to kill him.
Shalimar is continually concerned about Brennan. It seems Brennan and Cole were adrenaline junkies and did a lot of stupid, and dangerous, things just for the thrill of it. Cole, unlike the others Brennan was dealing with, knew about his powers.
Given there was nothing in the armoured car, presumably it was the armoured car itself they needed. Lexa goes poking around Hayes which starts to raise yet more questions about the Dominion. It’s also still not clear just what Adam is up to.
