“At Destiny’s End” is episode twelve of season two of Mutant X.
Three men wearing bandanas and dark glasses rappel down a building then break into an underground area. The Double Helix is on the way in and Adam tells them the perimeter alarm went off three minutes ago. Emma asks what they are doing; the people they are after are not criminals. Jesse asks what else you call people who blow up private property. The three are already inside and one, Skye, asks another, Tyler, which way they go. Tyler appears to have the ability to see the future.
The Double Helix has landed and Brennan and Emma find where the three broke in. They are now planting an explosive charge, and leave. When Emma arrives, Tyler sees her in his mind and she senses him too. Tyler drops his climbing rig and Emma is just standing there when Brennan arrives. She tells him they were just here and he warns Jesse and Shalimar; Jesse protects Shalimar from the explosion.
Back at Sanctuary and Brennan is talking to Adam. Adam tells Brennan they can’t blame themselves; these ecoterrorists have had many miraculous escapes. Brennan says this time it’s different; Emma froze. If Brennan hadn’t returned, he might not have been able to warn Jesse and Shalimar. Maybe she sympathises with the ecoterrorists.
Jesse has found a custom crest on the rappelling rig and if they find the maker, they could find the guys. Emma says that the chemical company is pumping vile stuff into the environment; Jesse agrees. Adam wants a chat with Emma. She says she doesn’t know what happened. He wants her to stay close to home until he knows whether it was her politics or her powers that made her freeze.
Tyler, Skye and the third ecoterrorist, Deacon, are sitting on the beach by an RV. Tyler says he’s using his powers too much; it hurts more every time. He’s also less certain they are accomplishing anything. They cause damage, the company gets a big insurance check. Skye says they’re striking fear. Tyler isn’t sure. Skye says they will make them afraid; hit bigger and harder. He thinks Tyler saw something he isn’t telling. He’s right, but Tyler denies it.
Shalimar tells Emma that Jesse has got a list of designers; is she coming? No; Adam told her to sit this one out. Shalimar wants to know what really happened. Emma explains that she contacted the mind of one of the ecoterrorists. She felt him loving her. It was like he always knew Emma and vice versa. As if they were meant for each other. She has to find him. Jesse overheard too. No, he isn’t going to stop her. He gives her a set of keys.
Emma heads to the marina and speaks to the person who made the climbing gear. He says he sold a bunch to some wild guys down the beach. Emma uses her powers to get him to tell her where they hand out. She heads there and Skye comes over. She says she’s looking for Tyler. Skye says he can take her to Tyler, but she’ll have to hitch a ride on the back of his jet ski. Tyler, however is not out there. He’s on the beach and he sees a vision of Emma being thrown off the back of the jet ski. He heads out and the accident happens. Scott isn’t worried by Tyler dives in to find Emma.
Adam is looking for Emma and Jesse and Shalimar give some very unconvincing explanations. Adam is worried about Emma; he wants them to make sure she’s okay. The ecoterrorists have been ahead every step of the way. If one’s a powerful empath, he could possibly sense Emma’s presence, maybe even control her.
Emma is talking to Tyler and they’re getting on fine. He invites her to a party later on. The other three arrive at the beach and Shalimar’s way of asking for help from the maker of the climbing gear is not quite as nice as Emma’s. Jesse, meanwhile, seems to be mostly getting phone numbers.
Emma is awfully conflicted with her feelings for Tyler. He seems to feel the same way about her, but Skye is more intent on violence and using Tyler’s powers to help him. There’s no way that’s going to have a happy ending.
