“The Things We Bury” is episode eight of season two of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
At the end of the previous episode, “The Writing on the Wall”, Coulson and the team had worked out that the carvings he, and others, had been making were actually a 3D map of an alien city. Now, they need to try and find it.
At the end of “A Hen in the Wolf House” Skye’s father had arrived at HYDRA with the Obelisk, which he called the Diviner. He is also looking for the alien city, with a HYDRA team, and he seems rather crazy, although he generally hides it well. Generally, but not always, and when it comes out, it tends to come out quite violently. There is something in this episode which does explain this to a degree, as well as his motivations.
There are various clips dating back to Whitehall’s capture and interrogation at the end of World War II, which means we see Peggy Carter quite a bit. When Whitehall’s old SSR file, showing him to be a Nazi and an associate of Red Skull, turns up, Simmons recognises that they are the same person. I’d forgotten that the team didn’t know that part as yet.
Grant Ward finds his brother the senator for a little personal time together. Looks like they had a really frakked up childhood.
