“Laws of Nature” is episode one of season three of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The new season opens with a very dead person – they’re missing the top half of their body – and some collateral damage. There’s a man on the street randomly liquefying metal, and he has absolutely no control over his abilities. A team is despatched to stop him, with lethal force if necessary, but are stopped by S.H.I.E.L.D. who take the man to safety.
Since the crystals were released into the ocean in the season two finale, “S.O.S.: Part 2”, new Inhumans are randomly cropping up as they are affected by contaminated water. S.H.I.E.L.D. is collecting some, but others are being abducted by a mysterious black-ops agency – and they don’t seem to be as nice about it as S.H.I.E.L.D. are.
Fitz is in Tangier tracking down a new lead on the Monolith that swallowed Simmons in the previous episode, but the rest of the team believe she is dead.
A passing reference to the events of Ant-Man in this episode and Coulson has a fancy new plane.
