“Time and Tide” is episode three of season one of Marvel’s Agent Carter.
In the previous episode, “Bridge and Tunnel”, the silent killer went after Leet Brannis as Carter and Jarvis were taking him away. Brannis died, drawing a symbol of a heart with a wavy line through it before he died, and the silent killer himself perished when the van full of nitramene exploded. The silent killer had also dropped a hotel room key during his fight with Carter.
When the refinery imploded in “Now is Not the End”, the rear bumper of Jarvis’ car was ripped off; the number plate of the vehicle was found in the rubble which had been taken to SSR. Jarvis had disposed of the car on Peggy’s instructions.
Someone is watching the building where Peggy is now living; she had followed Jarvis’ advice and not cut herself off from the world, moving into the same building that Angie lives in. A figure climbs up the drainpipe of the building, arriving at Carter’s window. To find her pointing a gun at his face. She tells the man that the rules of the place are no men above the first floor. The man, Jimmy, is looking for his girlfriend Molly; he has got the wrong room.
Chief Dooley and Agent Krzeminski arrive at the hotel where the silent killer was staying and enter his room. There are various passports and the typewriter that was being used as a long distance communications device.
The landlady of Peggy’s place tells the women staying there that the building is impenetrable. She knew about Jimmy’s late night visit, and Molly is told to leave the building.
The SSR have identified Brannis as serving in a Russian rifle division during World War II. Only he’s dead. Not just dead now, dead two years ago; his entire division was wiped out. The license plate found in the refinery rubble has also been traced back to Stark.
Carter arrives at Stark’s place. She tells Jarvis that her landlady claiming that her building was impenetrable gave her an idea. If Carter can work out how the thieves got into the vault, she should be able to track them. Jarvis tells her she isn’t dressed for it though.
Whilst Peggy is at Stark’s, Agents Sousa and Thompson turn up, asking about the car. Jarvis tells them that he had reported it stolen, but they ask him to pop in for questioning anyway. During the questioning, it’s brought up that Jarvis had been charged with treason and received a dishonourable discharge. Which means that he could end up being deported from the U.S. It looks like Jarvis might start telling what he knows, so Peggy has to do something quickly. She’s also concerned about the treason charge, and brings it up next time she and Jarvis are together. He does eventually explain the matter.
Carter is not getting a lot of respect from inside SSR and she is running the constant risk of being exposed. Given that everyone else believes that Howard Stark is a traitor, if it’s revealed that Carter is working with him, it could go badly for her.
