“Vanishing Point” is episode twelve of season one of Manifest.
At the end of the previous episode, “Contrails”, Grace found Cal missing from his room. Ben arrives home to see police everywhere, and there are lots more inside. Grace is being questioned and she explains that Ben has moved out. The detective is asking if there’s anyone who would want to hurt her son as Ben enters. Ben says it’s the unwanted attention from Flight 828.
Michaela confronts autumn, wanting to know where Cal is. She knows Autumn is working for the Major. Then Olive calls Michaela; she needs to come as the cops think Ben abducted Cal. Michaela takes Autumn with her.
The man, Jansen, who spoke to Autumn and gave her a new phone arrives at a facility and is told that Cal is missing and the cops are being monitored.
Ben is telling Grace she shouldn’t have called the cops when Michaela arrives. Because there are people much higher up the food chain. Michaela says Autumn is in the car denying anything; Grace is told who Autumn is. And that what Cal has been experiencing makes him valuable. They didn’t tell Grace to protect her, given that there were deaths and Jared nearly died. But hopefully it was just a tragic fluke. They think the Major knows about Cal. Ben explains Cal’s drawings and they go into his room to look at his sketchbook. Which has a drawing of them doing just that.
Cal is in a cabin, shivering, and there’s a picture of him doing that. There are more pictures, including one of a figure in a doorway, and there’s a page missing. There are drawings of rocks and a lake and buildings which Grace recognises as being in Tannersville. They could be a map to where Cal is. They need to get rid of the cops, as the Major could monitor them, which Michaela does by ringing Jared and getting him to come and say Cal is safe with his grandfather.
Michaela wants her and Jared to question Autumn, as Ben and Grace head to Tannersville. And to borrow a car. With them heading to Tannersville, Michaela questions Autumn about the sketchbook. Autumn doesn’t want to talk because it’s not just about her.
Jansen is informed that the NYPD has left and the Stones may have swapped cars. He wants people in the field. He’s also told Autumn is in police custody, so calls the Major.
Grace and Ben arrive in Tannersville to find buildings matching the drawing.
Michaela is feeling cold and Jared approaches her after she made some calls. Autumn has a daughter and she’s just spoken to the daughter’s foster mother. The daughter has now been adopted. This is what the Major has been holding over Autumn. They can track down the kid too. Jared says they need to move fast; Autumn’s warrants have been voided so they’ll have to let her go.
Michaela heads back to speak to Autumn, who says she didn’t give the Major the missing page. Michaela says they’ve tracked down Autumn’s daughter and know where she is. Autumn is reluctant to take the risk.
Grace and Ben are looking for Cal as are the Major’s people. And Cal is waiting for someone to arrive.
