“Return Trip” is episode six of season two of Manifest.
Zeke is out and he heads back to Courtney, revealed to be his wife in the previous episode, “Coordinated Flight”, with some drugs. She says they should get married. Courtney is actually recounting this at a meeting, and saying Zeke is getting a path out. He’s dating a police detective and is happy, and he’s trying to help her as well.
Ben is giving Michaela some things and mentions Courtney. Michaela tells him that Zeke was high and never filed the marriage paperwork. They broke up a year before Zeke disappeared. Ben suggests it might be weird having Zeke’s ex on the couch. Michaela says that Zeke dealt with her and Jared, and went to Rikers for it. It’s fine. Well, no, it isn’t. Michaela wants Courtney gone.
TJ and Olive are heading to the Believers’ soup kitchen. Adrian turns her away, though; she’s a minor and Ben made it very clear. Afterwards, Adrian reassures Isiah that there will be another miracle.
Ben speaks to Grace; she plays him a message. A magazine is doing a story on the first 828 baby and want an interview. Ben says there is no story; it’s not like a plane coming back. Then he gets a calling of the plane, and sees Saanvi before she disappears. He tells Grace he thinks Saanvi is in trouble. She’s not with Vance; she’s doing her research again.
Michaela tries talking to the captain about the potential leak that warned the Xers. The captain seems oddly uninterested. Drea tells Michaela afterwards that they have a lead on an attempted burglary, but Michaela gets a message from Ben.
Ben is outside Saanvi’s office. The door is locked and her phone is ringing inside. Michaela arrives and gets a guard to open the door; Saanvi is unconscious on the floor. Afterwards, Ben plays Saanvi’s Dictaphone to Michaela; it sounds like Saanvi is experimenting on herself. The doctor says Saanvi will be fine and Michaela gets a message and has to go.
TJ and Olive are talking about the tarot card she got that matches the engraving on the compass. They decide to try and find the reader.
Saanvi tells Ben she’s testing on humans – herself – because of the death date. He wants her to promise not to do it again. If it wasn’t for the calling, she’d be dead. Saanvi thinks the calling was about a young boy, though, who was on a seat on the plane. Except there wasn’t a boy there. Ben says the seat is Finn Nowak’s.
TJ and Olive, acting kind of flirty, see another Tarot reader in the same place.
Ben is with Finn. Finn doesn’t have any kids and mentions how he wasn’t even supposed to be on the plane. But he met a woman after a bachelor party and the next morning she was gone. He missed his flight looking for her. And Ben notices a photo of the boy. Except that’s a photo of a young Finn.
Michaela finds her home a mess and Courtney has been attacked.
The tarot reader tells TJ and Olive the deck the card they describe came from, and some places to look for it.
Ben and Saanvi discover a child born on the right date to be Finn’s, and the mother has the same name.
Courtney explains she owes her dealer $20K and she can either work for him or die.
When Ben and Saanvi arrive at the boy, Theo’s, house, they discover that his mother was married when she had the one-night stand with Finn. Finn didn’t know. And her husband doesn’t know Theo isn’t his.
TJ and Olive find an Al-Zunas deck. Named after a man who was lost at sea for 10 years, and returned claiming he could hear the voice of God. Which sounds familiar.
There’s a lead in the Tarot deck, the problem with Courtney and Jared may well be becoming an issue.
