“Deadhead” is episode two of season three of Manifest.
Angela, who was rescued in the previous episode, “Tailfin”, is running away from a faceless winged creature with a sword. She’s having a calling, but doesn’t mention it when Grace checks on her.
Downstairs, Ben has located where Vance was taken. Grace reminds him Vance said to stay out of it; he must have a plan. Ben isn’t so sure as no-one in government can be trusted. There’s a knock; three people are there to see Ben. One from the Pentagon, one from the DoD and Powell from the NSA.
Michaela is back at the precinct and Jared greets her. He starts saying he wants to talk to her about a case when she notices a message from the Fish & Game warden at the lake where Cal went through the ice. She asked him to contact her if there was unusual activity. Then the captain calls her in.
At Ben’s, he’s being asked about the cargo plane he was on and what’s going on. Grace says this sounds like either they need lawyers and warrants, or they can help her make lunch. The three leave, though Powell makes an odd comment about the truth setting you free to Ben on the way out. Ben thinks he has to try to save Vance.
Michaela was likely to be terminated, but the captain stood up for her. But follow the rules or quit now. And where was Michaela going? She explains about the warden, and is told these days it’s possible to email footage. If there’s anything there, she and Drea can then check it out. Drea is happy to see Michaela back. And they watch the footage, which shows Baylor and the other two leaving the lake.
Grace is worried when Ben tells her. He says they will be dead in 84 days; they think Cal dead and just need to keep him away from them. Somewhere no-one will ever connect. Which is Grace’s stepdad’s cabin and her brother Emmett. Ben says he has to save Vance.
At the lake, Drea and Michaela find a man and woman that Baylor attacked; their RV was stolen.
Angela has a calling and Olive finds her. Then explains what they are. They talk, and Angela remembers a stained-glass window from her old school with an archangel that could tie into it. Olive tells the others they aren’t going; she’s helping Angela and is supposed to help. Cal agrees. Grace says their family was split up like this before. Ben reminds her it saved Cal’s life.
Saanvi is examining Zeke and can find nothing wrong with him when Ben arrives and tells them about Baylor. He also tells Saanvi about his visitors and how he’s worried about the Major. Not knowing Saanvi has apparently killed her. He also shows her the mark from the tailfin.
Drea and Michaela are after Baylor and the others, though Pete Baylor thinks maybe they came back for a do-over. Following the rules is harder than Michaela anticipated. And Grace is trying to patch up a relationship with her stepbrother.
