“Crosswinds” is episode ten of season one of Manifest.
Michaela is at her mother’s grave, saying about how everyone has moved on in the last five and a half years, and all the things that have happened. She just wants her life back.
Autumn is at the place Fiona got for the passengers that were rescued, when she gets a text message on the phone Belson gave her, telling her she needs to contact them or the deal is off. Then all the passengers jolt at the same time. She calls for help.
Autumn tells Saanvi and Fiona what happened. She’s asked if she’s sure when they all do it again. Fiona says it’s as if they are still connected. Saanvi says they need to warn the other passengers, at least those who were drawn to the plane when it exploded. These were the low-hanging fruit; they could be next.
Ben is looking at all the information he’s gathered but is getting nowhere when Michaela returns. She tells him where she went and reassures him that Grace will take him back. It’s been ten days with no callings; perhaps the lab explosion reset them. There’s a memorial for Vance, who died in the previous episode, “Dead Reckoning”, and Ben is going to go to it. That’s what cops do with victims’ funerals. Michaela reminds him he isn’t a cop. But Ben has to protect Cal.
Olive is worried about her mother and Cal sends a message to Ben, who is at the memorial. One of the agents present tells Powell who comes over and tells Ben to leave, because he got Vance killed. Ben does leave and a young man follows. He introduces himself as Aaron Glover, a journalist. He has a podcast. He also knows that a helicopter dropped a major off at the Red Hook factory an hour before the explosion. Aaron tells Ben to check out the podcast.
Saanvi tells Michaela that they have 18 of the passengers coming. Michaela recognises one of the currently mostly unresponsive people who were being experimented on. She touches him, then gets a calling. This time a vision of a blizzard and a voice saying ‘Find her.’ And the passenger, Paul Santino, comes around.
Paul doesn’t remember anything; Saanvi tells Michaela it sounds like complete amnesia, possibly because of the electroshock. She wants Michaela to see if she can do it again. There’s no change in Marko, though, when she tries. Paul has a wife, Helen, who never showed up at the airport.
They speak to the other passengers and talk about the strange experiences. Captain Daly heads out and Ben follows. Daly thinks that maybe the flight was Fiona’s science experiment. He’s going to try and figure this out alone. Autumn overhears and speaks to Ben after. He mentions the major; she says she heard Belson talking to the major about the holy grail. When Ben leaves, Autumn throws away her burner phone.
Jared, now back at work, helps Michaela look for Paul’s wife, Helen. Which just brings up what Michaela lost. She and Ben in particular are having to deal with the changes in their lives. Ben continues trying to find out more about the mysterious major.
