“Ghost in the Fire” is episode two of season two of Krypton.
Two skimmers are in the Outlands when they detect something. What they detected was Doomsday. It does not go well for them. Val-El and Jax-Ur have arrived among the rebels on Wegthor. Lyta is looking at a holo of Seg when General Zod finds her.
On Colu, Seg comes to, chained to a tree with Adam, who is still out. The man who caught them in the previous episode, “Light-Years from Home”, is picking up weapons to decide what to use. Adam starts coming to and he is asked what the zeta beam device is. Never mind; their captor throws it away. And suggests they have a little fun. Seg would like to define fun first. Fun appears to involve ripping his intestines out. Seg says he doesn’t know who the man is. He thinks Seg is joking. Seg is not. The man reels off a bunch of epithets. Not ringing any bells. He says everyone knows who he is. His name is Lobo. It seems Adam recognises that name.
Seg tells Lobo he has the wrong guys. Lobo knows that. That’s why he’s going to kill them. Seg ends up realising that Lobo is looking for Brainiac; Lobo’s detector activated but, when Lobo arrived, there was no Brainiac. Why is that? Because Seg killed him. Lobo does not believe that. Seg says they can take Lobo to the body. And then let them go. Lobo agrees, but states there had better be a body there when he arrives. Or there will be two when he leaves.
Lyta is telling Zod about the two dead skimmer pilots. General Zod knew capturing Brainiac would be a challenge. Lyta does not think that is the correct description. But, besides that, there are the casualties on Wegthor. Because their troops are not Sagitari. Putting conscripts in uniform and giving them a blaster does not make them Sagitari. Lyta wants to head to Wegthor to assess them personally and integrate them with more seasoned troops. General Zod agrees, but tells Lyta she will do it in Kandor. He needs her close. Besides, if the plan works, the battle will be over and the resistance shattered. The plan is sending Nyssa to Wegthor to infiltrate the rebels, because Zod has her baby.
Lobo is currently telling Adam and Seg how Brainiac bottled his city then destroyed his planet. Adam asks if Brainiac killed Lobo’s entire race. Yes… well, no. They were already dead; Lobo killed them. But Lobo had just got the place how he liked it and headed off planet for a vacation, only to come home to find there was no home. Adam can relate. Seg has stated precisely how far it is to the body. Then, when Krypton comes up – and after Lobo misinterprets what Seg called it – gives its precise distance as well. Adam asks how Seg knew that. Seg has no idea. There is someone with a habit of citing such things rather precisely, though.
In the Outlands, Jayna-Zod is with her brother. Lyta is training the troops and keeps seeing Seg in the face of one. That doesn’t go so well. She asks General Zod if the recruit will be okay afterwards. He asks if she is planning to visit him. She is not. Then the recruit will probably be fine.
Adam and Seg are stuck with an individual whose idea of fun is brutally killing people and has a really appalling sense of humour. There may be issues with Seg as well; he’s being awfully precise about some things. Then there’s Nyssa, and what she might be willing to do to get her son back.
