“There’s No Place to Go but Down” is episode seven of season two of Harley Quinn.
At the end of the previous episode, “All the Best Inmates Have Daddy Issues”, Harley and Ivy were caught by Two-Face. This ends with them in court; Two-Face says he has even got a real judge. Bane, who says he’s totally unbiased. Two-Face says Bane is telling the truth; it’s annoying. That’s why he’s got Ivy and Harley Gotham’s best litigator. Man-Bat.
Harley is charged with the murder of Oswald Cobblepot. And other stuff. A goon testifies to Harley biting the Penguin’s nose off. Man-Bat screeches something and Bane asks if anyone speaks bat. Two-Face’s last witness is Poison Ivy. Harley tells Ivy to blame everything on Harley. Ivy doesn’t, instead admitting they did kill the Injustice League. And they will finish the job. Bane sentences them to life in prison.
Gordon and Batgirl are in the sewers, looking for Ratcatcher who is smuggling weapons into Gotham. Gordon is drinking, drops his flask and alerts Ratcatcher. That could have gone better.
Harley and Ivy are in a prison van; Harley says Ivy shouldn’t have admitted it. She could have led a rescue for one thing. Ivy says not to worry, they can break out of Arkham in their sleep. Unfortunately, they aren’t being sent to Arkham, instead arriving at the pit that Two-Face gave to Bane in “Batman’s Back, Man”. Both say they won’t go into it. Bane pushes them in. Reassuring the goons that he put soft stuff at the bottom, before following. Bane explains that the Pit is a place for redirecting murderous urges. There’s a talent show tomorrow. Now Ivy is fretting.
Gordon is eating dinner with Barbara. She asks how the crimefighting went. Gordon doesn’t think Batgirl can cut it; she may have to go. Barbara wants him to stop drinking. The Two-Face and his goons open up on the house.
In group therapy, Victor Zsasz is talking. Ivy says they all want to change, but the Pit is dank and depressing. How about a transfer to Arkham. Bane says Arkham is for the criminally insane; the Pit is for the criminally capable. And there’s a treat; George Lopez is flying in for the talent show in a helicopter. Ivy and Harley plan to steal it. As Ivy later admits, the plan sounds stupid.
Gordon is on the verge of giving up to Two-Face when Batgirl joins in. Then reveals who she is to her father, to convince him to stop drinking and start over. It works. Too easily, as Gordon himself lampshades. Gordon gets a second wind for being a cop again.
