“The Line” is episode seven of season one of Harley Quinn.
The news is on and it seems the Queen of Fables is going to be released from the U.S. Tax Code, the judge having ruled it cruel and unusual punishment. Harley is watching it with the Queen, who is still in the code; Fables complains they always use the same picture of her. Harley says it’s better than the one they always use of her. They talk about the Legion of Doom; Harley has still heard nothing. Fables tells her to find the thing the Legion wants most and get it first.
At the mall, Harley is swiping through various Legion members; Psycho says they know what they look like, what’s the point? Apparently, they all tried and failed to steal Kord Industries’ weather machine. That’s why they are going to do it. King Shark thinks that if the others failed, that’s an indicator they shouldn’t even try. Harley’s opinion is that’s why, when they succeed, the Legion will have to pay attention to them. Clayface has already been inside Kord; the weather machine is protected by 1,000-ish lasers. S.T.A.R. Labs, however, have developed a personal forcefield that would deflect the energy. To get the forcefield, they will need to get through an airduct 4″ wide. Harley thought that this might be an issue. And? Yes. It is an issue.
Frank tells Harley that the news is talking about that book she loves. No, not Sahara by Clive Cussler. The Queen of Fables. She’s being released from the tax code. Fables tries leaving the court but is seized. Yes, the judge said she was going to be released from the code. She has been. Now, she’s going to be sent to Arkham. Harley is upset. Ivy says Fables nearly destroyed Gotham. Harley thinks that’s down to a lack of affordable housing. Ivy is telling Harley that Fables belongs in Arkham, but she’s already gone, and breaks Fables and her storybook free from her prison transport.
Harley brings Fables back to the mall. She’s going to help them break into S.T.A.R. Labs. King Shark wants to know if Fables can bring Humpty Dumpty to life. She can. Then smashes him half to make scrambled eggs. Ivy doesn’t want to be involved with Fables. She’s a legitimate bad guy. Harley says they are too, and Ivy is always wanting Harley to listen to other people. No; Ivy is always wanting Harley to listen to others. Harley is a bad guy, but a good person. Harley is broadcast bad. Fables is cable bad.
Breaking into the lab requires Cinderella’s mouse. King Shark asks if the mouse is up for the job. He is, but this raises different trouble questions for King Shark. Outside the lab, Harley is hit by a ball from a family reunion. She wants to call off the mission. Fables says she will keep the reunion busy. When the others return having stolen the forcefield, Fables has slaughtered everyone at the reunion. Well, technically, the Big Bad Wolf has. Fables says they need to be sure everyone is dad, so no-one comes after them in revenge. Harley says they are, even though she’s seen a survivor. The Three Little Pigs clean up the corpses.
Harley is thinking Ivy does have a point. The fairy-tale characters are proving to be quite disturbing. Ivy is seeing Kite Man, who she met in “A High Bar” and seems rather embarrassed that she is. Wearing a scarf, overcoat and sunglasses and not wanting to go out in public with him.
