“The End of All Things” is episode fourteen of season four of Fringe.
In the previous episode, “A Better Human Being”, Olivia disappeared; she’s being held captive with Nina Sharp. Lincoln and Peter arrive at Olivia’s home and Peter is searching the place as Lincoln is saying Nina must be behind it. Lincoln thinks that Peter has been robbing Olivia of her identity; she’s not Peter’s Olivia. Peter is searching for a camera and has found one; it has a chip inside that records everything in a 60-minute loop.
Nina is telling Olivia that she was taken by her alternate weeks ago. She still doesn’t know what he wants. He being David Robert Jones. Jones introduces himself. Olivia says they’ve already met. She watched him die and is looking forward to doing so again. Jones finds it’s interesting she’s the second person to tell him that. Jones knows that her abilities are triggered by intense emotion, related to others, not herself, and plans to drill into Nina’s artificial arm to cause that.
One Observer is joined by three more. They’re talking about the most commonly seen one, September, who has continually intervened on behalf of Peter despite all warnings not to.
Broyles is with the other Nina, who is denying having anything to do with the mixing Olivia or cortexiphan, even if she seems to have accessed the facility and been seen to enter.
Peter is at the lab working on the chip, hoping to get some of the older images. Walter thinks Olivia shouldn’t have been released from the lab. Peter is finally getting something.
Nina is taken away, and wired to a bed frame and electricity. Jones has a box of lights; Olivia knows he wants her to turn them on with her mind, as he did before in “Ability”. Jones thinks it shouldn’t be a problem them. Olivia fails and says she’s too tried. Jones gives her an hour to rest.
Peter has finally got an image from the chip, and Astrid runs the face through facial recognition. Peter is worried about who Nina is working for; the only person who ever dosed Olivia with cortexiphan in Peter’s timeline was David Robert Jones. He might be trying to activate her again. They could never figure out why, and maybe it’s the same goal now. September says it is. The Observer has just appeared, and is still injured as he was when he appeared to Olivia, and he collapses. He tells Peter she needs him.
The Observer has been shot and Walter doesn’t even know if he has the same physiology. Peter says his Walter said they do, and how the Observers appear at significant events. Lincoln calls; they’re running the face and he doesn’t think Nina will cooperate soon.
The other Nina tells Olivia that William Bell fired Jones for being unhinged. Olivia wants Nina’s help in activating her, because she can’t remember certain aspects of their relationship, and without that emotional connection, she can’t do what Jones wants. She needs Nina to help her remember.
Peter tries to get some help from September to find Olivia, who ends up disclosing some more information on the Observers. Jones is trying to force Olivia into using her abilities.
