“The Consultant” is episode eighteen of season four of Fringe.
In the previous episode, “Everything in Its Right Place”, AltLincoln was killed. Lincoln and AltAstrid are watching the funeral from a car.
At Fringe Division, Fauxlivia is offering AltNina a reduced sentence in exchange for revealing who the mole is. A one-time offer. She declines, saying that she won’t be there very long and things are about to get much worse.
In an office in Manhattan, a man is having a go at another for making him and another have to cancel their flight because something the other has failed to do. Then the man yelling is thrown into the air, hovers, then smashes down on the table, dead.
Walter and Astrid arrive – he doesn’t like her driving – and meet Peter and Olivia. Two men were killed in the building the same way; lifted several feet in the air then driven down by an unseen force. They died on impact.
Walter examines the bodies and says the injuries are consistent with impact. Just not from the height they fell. Olivia is talking to a witness when she gets a call. Both victims have abrasions, which Peter says look like seat belts. As if they’d been in a car crash. Olivia tells them there’s a third victim, a man found dead in an apartment in Brooklyn. The injuries and time of death were consistent. He was a pilot. Walter says the wounds are consistent with a plane crash. And he has an idea how.
On the other side, AltAstrid tells AltBroyles that Broyles from the other side was correct. They have the same men dead from a plane crash. Fauxlivia enters; she’s narrowed down a list of 108 names who might be the mole. AltBroyles eventually agrees they can be looked into. Meanwhile, there’s something else to work on; she’ll be meeting people from the other side at the Bridge.
Olivia is escorting Walter over, and she hands him over to Fauxlivia and Lincoln. Fauxlivia tells Walter the Bridge is helping heal her world and asks how an event in one universe could affect another. And could it be deliberate? Walter tells her anything is possible. Fauxlivia tells him AltNina said things would get worse then this happens.
Walter tests the vibration frequency of the bodies they have, then that of a hand from one of his. Each universe vibrates at a specific frequency; the victims from his universe have been made to vibrate at this universe’s frequency. Lincoln asks about the black box; they don’t have them but satellites monitor communications.
The plane ran into strange turbulence before crashing, and Walter says whatever merged the frequencies destabilised the aircraft. Something must have been attached. He has no idea why.
A man meets David Robert Jones. They did cause the crash and are going to do something else.
AltBroyles arrives home and is told his friend is waiting. David Robert Jones. Jones wanted to bring something personally. Medicine that’s making Chris better. It seemed like AltBroyles had been replaced with a shapeshifter; now it doesn’t.
David Robert Jones is definitely planning something, and it’s doubtful anyone else will be happy.
