“Everything in Its Right Place” is episode seventeen of season four of Fringe.
Lincoln arrives at the lab to find that Peter and Walter are preparing to take the cow out to a pasture for grazing day. Olivia found something at her apartment that she thinks is Lincoln’s because it has his former partner’s name on it. It is, but he gave it to her and she doesn’t remember. He explains what it is and why he gave it.
Astrid arrives with some boxes of classified files; the other side wants a detailed debrief on their encounters with David Robert Jones. With the gaps in Olivia’s memory, Broyles thought Astrid would be better, even though she had something planned. Lincoln offers to go instead. He speaks to Broyles and convinces him to let Lincoln go.
Belmont, New York, on the other side, and a woman is attacked on the way to her car by a mugger. Who is in turn attacked.
Lincoln arrives on the other side and Fauxlivia says there’s been a change of plans; they’ll debrief on the way. In her car, they talk about why David Robert Jones was dosing Olivia and what happened. They pass an area; it seems amber is being removed as the bridge has stabilised the spatial rifts. Fauxlivia asks Lincoln what his middle name is to settle a bet.
They arrive where the woman was attacked and Fauxlivia calls AltLincoln by his middle name; it seems after six years he still hadn’t told her. They have the body of an unidentified assailant; the woman called in the attack. There’s been a bunch of vigilante cases where victims were attacked mid crime. The body is in odd shape, and it’s the first one found.
The attacker from last night or, rather, someone who looks just like him is putting something in a van when two men in hazmat suits show up. They’re checking the area and report it’s clear. But detect high amounts of organics. They follow the trace as the man hides, which leads them to a church that has supposedly been abandoned for years. Inside are lots of bodies, more than the six reported vigilante cases.
Fauxlivia is going to send Lincoln back, but he offers to help.
The man turns up at a shelter and says his name is Canaan. He’s eating, but bolts when someone comments he has something on his neck.
At the church. they have 18 bodies and 19 heads. The Lincolns are chatting when Fauxlivia calls hers over. Lincoln removes a chain from a body and her head falls off, and he notices something. He takes the pendant to Olivia; it has a photo inside. Lincoln wants to see the surveillance feeds in the area.
At Fringe, AltAstrid says that there is little likelihood of seeing the victim after she disappeared. Lincoln talks to his alternate, trying to work out where they diverged, when AltAstrid calls them. She has the woman, 2 days after she died, with a growth on her face.
Lincoln, along with AltLincoln and Fauxlivia, tell AltBroyles that it seems like the attacker is one of the earlier shapeshifters. AltBroyles disagrees, but he’s a shapeshifter himself.
Lincoln is trying to work out why his alternate is so much more confident than him when their lives seem identical. The shapeshifter they are after seems to be preying on criminals.
