“Premiere” is episode one of season one of Farscape.
In this unimaginatively titled pilot episode (okay, it is a bit better than calling it ‘Pilot’ which is what commonly happens), Farscape-1, a prototype space module (looks like a space plane of some description) piloted by Commander John Crichton is launched on a Space Shuttle (bit hard to be futuristic using an old-fashioned Shuttle these days) in order to prove a theory of his regarding using a planet’s gravity to increase the vessel’s speed.
An electro-magnetic wave hits the craft sucking into a wormhole (wormholes are currently theoretical, but they’re a strong theory), throwing his craft across the galaxy, where he emerges into the middle of a space battle. Something his craft is ill-equipped to deal with. His craft is taken on board a huge bio-mechanoid living ship called Moya, one with a disparate crew of aliens that is trying to escape an organisation called the Peacekeepers – who look surprisingly human. Crichton’s physical resemblance to the Peacekeepers causes more than a few misunderstandings over the series. Crichton also accidentally acquires an enemy in Peacekeeper Captain Bialar Crais.
The premise is kind of reminiscent of the old Buck Rogers series in some ways, only Crichton is sucked across the galaxy rather than being frozen to awaken in the future.
